I am planning on using the alternative to the moldspeaker posted here in my LoF campaign I am starting tomorrow (running under the Pathfinder ruleset). That got me thinking- if we are linking the party closer to Sarenrae... why not run LoF as a mythic AP? I've never played a mythic game before but I do own the Mythic Adventures hardcover so I have access to all of the rules. And while I haven't read past the first book, it sounds like a high-powered conflict of genies etc would be a perfect fit thematically for the mythic rules.

Do you think this is a good idea? Why or why not?

If I was going to do this what points would make sense to introduce mythic tiers? It seems like the first one ought to come after the lake oasis sequence in the alternative to moldspeaker thread.


The story screams mythic from the outset. I converted the entire AP to E6 with mythic (5 total tiers) and it was a blast - one of the best game ever. I did roughly one mythic trial per book. I'd probably stick to the same format with 1-15 levels since mythic can get out of hand with more tiers. The lesson I learned was fewer mythic tiers tends to be better than more. Five tiers was too many for an E6 game that ended at roughly APL 10, despite what Mythic Adventures says.

As for when to include mythic, I agree that mold speaker or an alternative is the right time for initial ascension. After that, key monsters should be the mythic trials. There are several that stick out, especially with some of the set pieces. I'd shoot for one or two trials per book at key moments.

I included Legendary weapons as well, which fit very nicely with the story. I say go for it and have fun with it. You'll have to boost many of the encounters, but it is worth the work. Genies require a mythic group of PCs to rise to the challenge.

Howl of the Carrion King

Moldspeaker: While carrying/wielding Tempest, the moldspeaker character is treated as a mythic creature (as if possessing the Mythic Companion feat); in addition, Tempest gains two uses of legendary power that the moldspeaker can activate. If a character selects the universal path ability Legendary Item and bonds with Tempest, they cannot select the Upgradeable legendary item ability.

Kardswann: Janni fighter (two-handed fighter) 2/champion 1; change Improved Bull Rush to Improved Overrun; Potent Surge; Fleet Charge; Burst Through.

Ascension: Defeat Xulthos (add the divine mythic simple template; Extra Mythic Power; Simple Divine Spellcasting - murderous command (x3), death knell, spiritual weapon (x2), deadly juggernaut, giant vermin; replace ring of protection +2 with ring of mind shielding) and restore Kelmarane.

House of the Beast

Zayifid: Janni rogue (scout, swashbuckler) 6/trickster 1; Rogue Talents - Positioning Attack, Powerful Sneak, Weapon Training (Scimitar); replace Improved Disarm and Lightning Reflexes with Dervish Dance and Weapon Finesse; Improved Initiative (Mythic); Fleet Charge; Deadly Dodge.

Mythic Trial: Defeat Ghartok (unchosen gnoll anti-paladin (knight of the sepulcher; variant multiclassing barbarian) 5/champion 1; Cruelty - Shaken; Spells - cause fear, savage maw; Cleave (Mythic); Sudden Attack; Mythic Rage) and recover the Scroll of Kakishon.

The Jackal's Price

Mythic Trial: Defeat Father Jackal (jackalwere fighter (savage warrior) 5/rogue (thug) 3/trickster 2; 19 Str; Rogue Talent - Combat Trick; remove Track and Weapon Specialization (Battle Axe), add Greater Dirty Trick, Improved Critical (Battle Axe), Improved Dirty Trick, and Quick Dirty Trick; Improved Critical (Mythic); Surprise Strike; Path Dabbling (Supreme Tracker), Treacherous Critical; replace throwing axes with chakrams).

Note: If the party uses the vial of dreams on the emkrah and it devours Father Jackal, the emkrah's tentacles retract and its shell hardens. What effect using a jackalwere with mythic tiers to trigger the resulting growth and what the Captain of the Sunset Ship wants with it are questions that may worry the PCs (for the GM to develop as a "Continuing the Campaign" scenario).

Mythic Trial: Defeat Obherak (shaitan fighter (unbreakable) 4/guardian 3; 34 Str; add Cleaving Finish; Cleave (Mythic), Improved Critical (Mythic); Sudden Block; Borrow Elements, Fast Healing, Shrug It Off) and exit Kakishon.

The PCs gain their 1st mythic tier at the end of Howl of the Carrion King, their 2nd tier at the end of House of the Beast, their 3rd after The End of Eternity, and their 4th before facing Jhavhuul.
