Anniversary Edition PDF Bounuses

Rise of the Runelords

Hey all, so this may me a stupid question and it has likely been answered in one of the thousands of threads on this campaign, but after looking at a few pages I didn't see it. So here is my question. I bought the anniversary edition at Barnes and Noble originally. A few of my friends are starting to play. They have only played 3 sessions before and I want to make this campaign awesome. I saw in an off-site review that the PDF includes specific PDF's of the handouts, but when I looked on here it just listed the maps. While cool that was not enough for me to put out the money for the PDF. If the handouts are included too though as they are in the book so I won't have to take the time recreating blood spatters and seals that would be awesome. So in short does the PDF also include specific print outs of the handouts?

I don't remember it coming with a separate PDF for handouts. It does come with a set of interactive maps, so maybe handouts are included in there too.

I extracted the handouts directly from the book PDF itself; no need for separate handouts.

Ok I haven't done much with PDF's in general. How do you extract the handouts?

Worst case scenario - you copy out the text into a text editor and make a new handout.

Actually for me that's been the best case scenario, as I usually have to modify them for my homebrew, or personalize them for my PCs.

Then print the newly created piece.

I think the limited edition extra fancy version of the physical book had handouts included with it, not sure if it's pdf was any different.

Yes, the Deluxe collectors' edition had the physical handouts; the basic Anniversary Edition does not. The PDF set for the deluxe collector's edition included a separate one for the handouts, which are not in the standard edition.

I purchased the pdf version of the Anniversary edition and it comes with a pdf for each book, a pdf with interactive maps (meaning you can turn off grid lines and room labels and secret doors) and a pdf with the handouts.

I don't recall it being a "deluxe collector's edition" (and is not labeled that way in My Downloads) so my assumption is that if you buy the pdf of the AE you'll get the map and handout pdf's.

You can easily make your own handouts:
1) open the pdf to the right page so the handout is displayed on your screen.
2) hit the "print screen" button on your keyboard (often situated above the number pad or next to the F1 to F12 keys). Don't worry that nothing appears to happen.
3) Open Word or another word processing program.
4) hit ctrl+V or right-click and paste. Now you have a copy of the whole page in word, in the form of an image.
5) click on the image and go into the toolbar and find the "crop" tool. Crop away anything on the page that isn't your handout.
6) resize the finished handout as desired.

Once you get used to it, it's pretty fast & easy. Scanning a page of a physical book works the same way, if you don't have a pdf. No need to copy the text and make a new handout.

Latrecis is correct. If you buy the full AE PDF you get the maps and the handouts. You also get each chatper/book as a separate file AND as one large PDF of the entire book, in both high res and low res versions.

In any event, the handouts are in PDF book format, with page headers, footers, and a similar background to what is in the actual RotRl book, so you'd need a tool to copy/paste the handout to something like MS Paint or GIMP (or print the page from the PDF then cut the handout from the paper). FoxIt PDF reader is free and has a snapshot tool that lets you click and drag a section of a page to copy to the clipboard for pasting into your favorite image manipulation software. It's how I've been printing the handouts since the beginning.
