Roleplaying Undead

Advice

I am GMing right now what has to be one of the most boring fights in a play by post. Skeleton archers, in the darkness, 120 feet away from the party. The skeletons are terrible shots. Most of the party can't see.

So it's miss, miss, miss on my side and running around aimlessly in the dark on theirs. It would be more exciting if the the skeletons had personality, but they're mindless, right?

What sort of personalities can you give to this sort of undead?

Help me out here!

Well, at least a few of them should get frustrated by missing so much, and they decide just to come charging and try to whack the party with the bows. Preferrably by trying to thow it at their heads. Then they can do claw attacks and such.

Oh charging and whacking the party with bows is good. I'll have to try that next turn!

I like fights better when the opponents can talk and have personality. These guys are just BLAH. It's for PFS so I can't change them to something with more pizazz... But charging and whacking would at least be more active!

Skeletons have "evil cunning" by their description, so play them that way. They should be cunning or sneaky, seeking the destruction of the living beings that entered their area. Let them set traps or ambushes due to their cunning nature (but they have no INT so they're not particularly clever - their trap might be to just stand perfectly still in the dark and wait for some living fool to wander too close).

For fun, add some pits to this big dark room. The skeletons know about them and try to lure the living fools into them (that's evil cunning, right?).

They don't have to just stand and shoot forever. They might take perverse cunning evil pleasure in clawing and scratching the flesh off of living victims and maybe even gnawing on them (no bite attack so it does no damage, but it can make for some creepy flavor text descriptions if you like).

It's PFS, so I can't add pits. But dark cunning may be possible.

I like your other suggestions!
