The Golden Talon (RotR spoilers)

Rise of the Runelords

Liberty's Edge

So Nualia has gotten free and is now on the loose. I'm hoping to bring her in later as "The Golden Talon", a full-plate clad figure of mystery.

My current timeline for her:

-She gets captured in BO, and Ironbriar releases her during SSM.
-After fleeing Magnimar with a need for vengeance, she heads directly to Mokmurian (as Xanesha'd be damned if Lucrecia got a new ally instead of her).

-Mokmurian sends her out to several Giant tribes, and killing/diplomacizing their chieftains nets her some levels. This is happening during HMM, but she is mentioned in Mokmurian's note to Barl.

-At Stones over Sandpoint, she'll be present alongside Teraktinus (in full plate to disguise her true nature), and her retreat will be a rout condition.

-She will also be present at Jorgenfist, wandering around the camps, capital P pissed that the party stopped her from becoming a true demon. During the assault, she'll hide out in the Shrine of Lamashtu, and then utilize the souls of the slain giants to become Half-Fiend.

-During SotS, Nualia will be ascending into Xin-Shalast and earning respect among the assembled giants.

-Once the party has reached Xin-Shalast, she'll lead several Rune Giants for a final showdown with the party, and only after she's dead will her identity be revealed.

What are your thoughts on this?

I have Naulia (and Mal) on the loose as well.

I followed this line of thinking about her.
1. Mal was a servant of Alaznist, and enemy of Karzoug.
2. Naulia has gotten visions from Lamashtu about freeing Mal.
3. Xanesha seems bored with the actual work of collecting souls for K.

You can use her as you have presented, to keep things simple, but it involves setting up a lot of escapes for her. I see her as being more useful if you go with that route as a connection to the lamias.

However, sending her to the Stones over Sandpoint event does work pretty well, as she would be all over the idea of bombing Sandpoint into the stone age, and she knows Sandpoint.

Me, I'm considering her reappearing at some point as an ersatz ally...

An ally? How so?

Well, Naulia and Mal are on the loose together.
Mal is 10,000 years out of the loop, and is quickly going to be able to work out that K. or his agents are at work.

K. is Mal's enemy, Naulia has been sent to free Mal.

I guess that answers the "why?" more than the "how?"

How? I'm not sure yet how I can get that to work.
She could easily end up being both enemy AND ally.

Oh! So she's working with Lamashtu! That makes sense.

The Scribbler is working with Lamashtu, and he is definitely not an ally of the party. Unless the party consists of chaotic evil monsters I don't think any Lamashtu supporters would ally with the party.

Lamashtu has gone to a fair amount of trouble reviving The Scribbler (the length of time he has been dead requires pretty much direct intervention to bring him back). Lamashtu has also set into play the whole Naulia situation.

The only reason to revive The Scribbler is so that someone can use his secrets.

Malfeshnekor also serves Lamashtu, and has a 10,000 year old grudge against Ol' Special K.

Nobody says the PCs and Naulia/Mal need to be friends to have the same goals, thus the "erstaz" part of "ersatz ally".
