Any shops of note in DFW?

Gamer Life General Discussion

I'm going to be in Irving, TX for the next week - was curious if there's any shops that folks would consider to be a "must visit" kind of thing? More interested in out-of-print stuff than new stuff, but if there's some super-awesome place, I'd be interested in checking it out.

I know that there's a number of Half Price Books down there, so I'll undoubtedly check at least a couple of those out.

Anyplace else I should keep my eyes open for? Any used bookstores that specialize in gaming stuff?

Make sure to check out the Half Price Books on Cooper in Arlington. It's just down the road from UTA, so you get a pretty varied supply of stuff coming in from the college students selling off their old stuff. Or at least it used to be that way. It's coming up on 5 years since I lived down there. Unfortunately, the Comic Boxx in Cleburne closed down. That guy had a ton of old 2nd and 3rd edition books.

I've been able to get to the flagship HPB so far, in addition to Madness Games & Comics in Plano.

Holy cow, Madness is impressive! Biggest game store I've seen to date. Only real drawback is pricing - they've got a TON of old d20 stuff, most of it looks new (I really didn't see much/any used stuff), and it's all cover price.

I found a couple items where that pricing model worked out quite well for me, but in general, most of the stuff is overpriced at cover.

Regardless, it was awesome to see shelves and shelves of d20 stuff - very reminiscent of the "golden age" of the d20 boom.

HPB was pretty awesome, too, but I'm guessing I shouldn't expect to find deals on game stuff, if the location I was at is any indication.

Used stores in my area tend to price gaming stuff just like they price other used books - half cover, or whatever arbitrary amount they decide to charge. HPB seems to do online comparisons or something - saw one of the 3.5 Complete books for $40. Ouch.

Still, ended up dropping about $50 on used paperbacks. :)

Going to try to hit up a couple more locations today or tomorrow.
