Homebrewed Sovyrian

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

In Castrovel, the world of nature's fertility and brutality, lies a realm protected by the harsh storms and weather patterns that torment the rest of the world.

Sovyrian is sheltered by the powerful magics of its aeroturgists, keeping the Elfland in a state of perpetual spring and calm. In peaceful glades and calm meadows, the elves of Sovyrian (calling themselves the Tíre Alainn, Beautiful Folk) live lives of eternal joy and pleasure.

The realm is dotted with gorgeous estates and covered in great forests, home to creatures strange and wonderful.

In the courts and palaces of El Nia Gwyn, the three near godlike rulers of Sovyrian play the shadowy games of politics. Eradia, the Birch Queen, the most powerful of three, whose love can see a thousand children smile and whose ambition would see her brothers burn where they stand. Auberon, the Oak King, wild, passionate warrior, leader of the Wild Hunt, great drinker and famous for terrible bouts of anger and depression. Llŷr, the Holly King, said to be the most beautiful being in existence, a writer and poet and master sorcerer, despite weak in body.

The elves grow bored of these machinations. One can only enjoy paradise for so long. Eventually you get sick of the Blessed Salt and Ambrosia...

The elves of Sovyrian look hungrily at the lands of the Inner Sea. They read their ancient texts and sagas, and their minds come alive at the thought of returning to the days of an elven ruled Golarion and their once multi-world spanning empire. They grimace at the thought of the Lesser Folk, tearing up and spoiling the lands once under their control. With Azlant sunk, the Serpentfolk fled underground, the giants turned to savages and the dragons are too few, there is not much in the way of a possible invasion. Queen Telandia and the elves of Kyonin, are possibly all that stand between Golarion and an all out war.

The elves of Sovyrian are beautiful, proud, vain and terrible. The people of Golarion have forgotten the oldest songs and folktales, which tell of the nightmare of elven rule, now they only have tales of trickery and dancing.

The Gentry, the Lords and Ladies, the Star People, the Tíre Alainn, intend to reminded them.

More to come.

I've been working for months now on trying to seek out literally every significant fact, reference, footnote, statblock, etc., regarding Elves in printed canon. And, slowly, trying to weave together all of it into a comprehensive, continuous "mini setting" for an Elven Adventure Path. With the addition of a lot of original material on my part (especially regarding the pre-Earthfall period.) Trying to do something on the scale of the Elves of Faerun Netbook (http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12619&SearchTerms=elves ,of,faerun )

I like what you have here. If you'd be interested in exchanging ideas, please message me!

I am working on a faction of elves in Sovyrian who are a bunch of pissed-off, vengeful elves who were tired of being a race in decline. When the elves left Golarion, several leaders felt the folk must get better or face annihilation in the face of the humans and other evildoers. Slowly, a group of high ranking elves began plans on how to make the elven race better in every possible aspect. Most fellow elves were against this, stating that the natural way of life is the right way. Once these elves returned to Kyonin to deal with Treerazer, they immediately went back to Sovyrian and reported how the younger races have evolved, improved, expanded and basically have surpassed the elves and how the old lands were now overrun. This changed the minds of thousands more elves. In no time, the ambitions to elevate the elven people into something more powerful went into full swing. After thousands of years of meticulous planning, constant foresight with the Elven gods, weapon breakthroughs, spell mastering, and even genetic engineering, the results are a better, stronger, more longer living elf. With better tactics, stronger bodies, more powerful magic, incredibly powerful weapons, more focused minds and improved leadership, these elves will return to Golarion and take back what was lost. The elves will no longer be in decline. The world will find out soon enough...

This is also a works in progress. Going to take a while to finish

I would like to see what you have collected. I am NOT impressed in how Paizo has put the elves in a rather mundane light. I personally am fed up with the same story for elves in fantasy: declining, losing every war, no efforts to improve and evolve, still frolicking naked through the woods while the evil forces are plotting to destroy them, whiny, emo and oblivious.

In my homebrew campaign world I've made Kyonin into a large redwood forest with elves living in cities build in the trees. They mainly keep to themselves and tend to make most people who venture into their tree-cities wish very much that they hadn't.

Pardon my inane footnote, but every time I read the title of this thread, I mistakenly read as "Homebrewed *Soy*varian". I end up picturing sentient strings of soy being boiled alive, crying "WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?!"

*cough* I'm sorry I didn't add anything to this conversation...

In my homebrew version of Golarion (and Forgotten Realms, and other settings) the elves are the descendants of elven colonists who sought (or were forced to seek) a more rustic lifestyle. In Golarion's system, there are two linked colonies (Golarion and Castrovel).

Then there are the elven spacefarers who use a crazy mash-up of magic and technology. Usually, young spacefaring elves have to choose between the two different "streams" when starting their training/career, and that usually decides what sort of shipS they use and what sort of worlds they visit.

The elven homeworld is in yet another planet/star system. The surface is a standard non-tech magic-driven fantasy setting (a conscious decision on their part), but they have a super-science/technology-based starship fleet based in their star system for defence and trade.

I'm working on tidying up (in terms of removing unnecessary files) things in my master Elven folder. I will share it on Google Drives with anyone who PMs me. Note, however, that due to the vast scope of this project, other than being "sorted" properly, many of the files are WIP's.
