Compound bow, marksmans bow, and starbow

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

In the past on the long bow''s it would state use your unmodified str die. I took this to mean you didn't add your skill bonus to it. The compound bow line in wotr do not which leads me to believe you get to add what ever skill bonus you have to strength to the roll. In most characters hands this is not that big of a deal but in the hands of Imrijka who uses strength ranged it appears to be added twice.
Playing third scenario with Imrijka using mythic marshal and a + strength skill marksmans bow for combat check
Ranged skill strength +1. = d10 +4
Strength die. D10 +3. just confused since in s&s and RoR clearly states unmodified
Scenario deck number 3
Mythic marshal 3

So is roll 2d10 + 13 or 2d10 + 10. It's not huge just a maximum + 4 one way or another but does make compound and marksman bow godly in her hands if double dip strength skill

Sovereign Court

Yes the compound bow is skill, not die. It's not a regular bow, so it isn't going to work the same.

EDIT: I should clarify, this is if Compound Bow says "skill", I don't have the card to see. If it says "die" and your only issue is the lack of "unmodified", it's because since that version of the Longbow, a distinction was made between Die and Skill. Die means no skill bonuses, Skill means with bonuses. The same applies to Marksman's Bow

If the card says you add a skill, you add the die corresponding to that skill as well as any other bonuses or skill feats you have for it. If the card says you add a die, you add that die only without anything else. S&S and later do not make any distinction between "unmodified" and "modified" die -- all instances of "add a die" are unmodified by skill feats, and all instances of "add a skill" are modified by respective feats, powers, etc.

That was a templating change between RotR and S&S+, don't let comparing outdated RotR wording with current wording confuse you as to what cards are actually trying to say.

I thought long and hard on this.

RULES: SKILLS, DICE, AND MODIFIERS If your character card says “Strength d10,” and the “+1” box next to that has been checked, your Strength skill is d10+1, and your Strength die is d10. (The “+1” is called a “modifier.”) If your character card also says “Melee: Strength +3,” your Melee skill is d10+4, your Melee die is d10, and the modifier is +4.

So imrijka doesn't double up as much as id like her to.. :)

That is correct, Marksman's Bow says "For your combat check, reveal this card to use your Dexterity or Ranged skill plus your Strength die plus the scenario's adventure deck number."

As Imrijka playing Marksman's Bow, you only get to add your Strength skill feats once, because adding your Strength die does not add any additional modifiers. If you were playing in AD2 and you had 2 skill feats in Strength, Imrijka would be rolling 2d10+5 (1d10+3 for using her Ranged skill, +1d10 for adding Strength die, +2 for being in AD2). If she took a Mythic path that impacted her Strength checks, she would get an additional bonus to the check based on how many Mythic charges she has; that bonus is only added once (and would still only be added once even if the card said "add your Strength skill" instead, as it applies to the check as a whole, not each time you add that skill).
