Reaper Mini's? Good? Is the most recent Kickstarter worth it???

Miniatures

Hey, I got an email form a friend about the Reaper Bones Kickstarter for miniatures. I haven't really invested in mini's in the past.

Does anyone have thoughts on if miniatures make a good addition to the game? And if so, does the Reaper Kickstarter look like a good one?

Anyone have experience with their product? It looks like this could be really huge and like it might be a really awesome value! But I don't know....

Any advice on if ppl have heard of them, and are backing, and if it would be good or not would be welcome! :D

Their minis are great. I haven't done their Kickstarters but have bought individual packs of minis and highly recommend them.

Hi JamesTheLion,

I've been a part of both previous kickstarters for Reaper and have purchased a LOT of WizKids prepainted Pathfinder minis.

If you're just getting into minis and want to/ have time to paint them then the Reaper Kickstarter is definitely worth it. Especially the paint package add-ons.

I found that the first Bones kick starter was so "worth it" that I got many MANY more minis than I had planned on, so in the second (and third, now) I went for the $1 Foot in the Door contribution. But, yes, if you want to get a mini collection started in one fell swoop, Bones kick starters will do it for you. Very good value for the contribution amounts.

Really? 10 days to go, 1.2 MILLION out of 30k backed, and nearly 10K backers and you are wondering if anybody has heard of them or are backing this?

This is almost pushing on the Mighty Number 9 Kickstart for going above and beyond the goal so yea... It might just be good.

A $100 for pretty much all the minis you will ever need is amazing. MY gf and I have backed all three kicstarters and been very happy with the result.

Flagged as being in wrong forum - this should be in the Miniatures sub-forum...

Reaper has been making minis for decades. They've always been excellent. Their Bones minis are positively orgasmic.

They're identical to the Pathfinder pre-painted minis, made of the same or at least similar polymer, and they're DIRT FREAKIN' CHEAP.

Seriously, when was the last time ANYONE could pick up a Gargantuan-sized mini for 15 bucks? Or a single Mini for like $2-3? Or a whole bunch of minis packaged together for like $5-7?

And because they're a polymer, they have much, much higher levels of detail than pewtwer minis ever did, and they aren't nearly as brittle as plastic minis. They're like a soft plastic that has plenty of bend & give.

Oh, and if you're a painting junky, you'll love them because they're bleach white - no Priming needed!

Reaper's Bones line is just so, so freakin' good. They're my go-to line now right after the Pathfinder Battles minis - if the mini I need/want doesn't exist in PF Battles, I go right to Bones.

I've been painting fantasy figures for years and Reaper is always my first go-to. The quality of the figures themselves are great and I've had good experience with their customer service.

The Bones I find are very much worth the price. One thing I do not like is, as with similar plastics, narrow pieces bend out of shape easily (although I see they now have more rigid plastics they use for things like weapon packs). The seams can be hard to remove--they don't file off as easily as from a metal mini. However, they hold a lot of detail and are certainly much easier to assemble than a metal mini. I have a Bones dragon that was an easy glue job, with a little greenstuff to fill gaps, whereas the equivalent pewter one I'm sure would have required lots of pinning and waiting for glue to cure. I also like how lightweight the dragon is -- a metal dragon of the same size would be heavy and possibly topple over depending on how you mounted/posed it.

There is "fine print" on the "no priming needed" thing with Bones, however--first, you should give them a wash. Second, that really only works best if you are also painting on them with Reaper paints. Some other brands of paint bead off (there are Youtube tutorials that show this), so you may still need to prime. (I prime them anyway since I prefer black primer.)

I participated with the first Bones Kickstarter and was very happy with what I had. As I've never even gotten around to finishing painting those, I haven't participated in the others; my funds are a bit tight at the moment as well. If you can afford the $100 pack it is a phenomenal deal.

PS: This should be in the miniatures forum. I have flagged it.

P.S. - $186 gets you a freakin' enormous collection of 100+ minis that includes 3 Gargantuan sized Dragons, a whole bunch of Undead, LOTS of Goblins, a pair of Frost Giants, individual weapons, props...

You know that $186 gets you for basically any other minis line? MAYBE 20-30 worthwhile minis, usually. 3 Gargantuan minis alone will cost you most of that $186 dollars right there.

The base $100 right now is looking at about 100 minis already, and that'll be more before the end. So that is already a pretty good deal

But if the price is a bit much for you You can go in at the 1$ level and just pick and choose a few. For example you set your self in at 1$ and pledge $30. End of the thing you pick out that $15 Dragon, the $6 Ogres and the $8 Undying Lords and walk away happy.

The quality of the figs has been pretty good, especially on the large one and they are great to paint

Do you suffer or feel shame by having a fish bowl of unpainted miniatures?

If not, go for it, they are high quality, good detail, don't require priming, and not prone to breaking.

I for one having painted about 1/10th of KS 1 and KS 2 am taking a pass on KS 3, but that is only due to insurmountable shame :)

if you are curious
this is some of the Bones 1 stuff after I finished painting them
