New Pathfinder GM - What AP to run?

Advice

Hi everyone.

I have been playing Pathfinder for 5 or so years now, and before that I played a lot of D&D in 3.0 and 3.5. I used to run some of the Wizards of the Coast modules as well as some of my own adventures.

Pathfinder certainly has a unique style and I have been really enjoying playing through my first few APs. We have done Iron Gods, Rise of the Rune Lords, and The Mummy's Mask.

What adventure paths would you suggest for a GM new to running the Pathfinder APs? I understand this is a tough one to answer considering that each DM and group is different. I have heard good things about Skulls and Shackles, as well as Kingmaker.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys.

Kingmaker doesn't hold your hand as much as the others - if you want to make the best of it you really need to tinker to make the game run smoothly. It's a little rough out of the box. The concept itself is fun though.

Otherwise... I don't really know. I've really liked Carrion Crown, myself.

Could you give my a synopsis of Carrion Crown? Without revealing too much I guess. :P

Sovereign Court

Rise of the Runelord is the major iconic AP and anniversary edition make it even better. It employs all the mechanics of the game, well basic mechanics without the extra rules. I'd recommend for any new gm and new players, as you get to learn about the essentials, difficult terrain and that making deals and getting properly prepared for encounters.

On the flip side, you have Shattered Star, it is kind of the spiritual sequel to Rise of the Runelord but it is fairly simple, for a new gm and new players, it shouldn't be too bad. Some people give it a bad rap since it is a dungeon crawl but frankly on new players...it is pretty good and fun to play.

Feel free to check out and play with the other AP but in general, you would need to get familiar with more rules.

special mention: Dragon's Demand is a big module level 1 to 7 but it is quite good and it give you a good place to start for your players in Golarion. After the adventure, you can do whatever you want in Golarion, even your own adventures!
