Unchained Rebuilds

Liberty's Edge

After a long hiatus from PFS, I recently came back. After purchasing Pathfinder Unchained, I saw that we were allowed to do one rebuild for certain classes as long as the character had not been played after April something-or-other.

So I rebuilt my Rogue, but the GM at the event was not sure if he needed to do anything. Do we need to worry about a PFS GM signing off on the rebuild since selling/buying/retraining is involved?

Not really. Just write "Rebuilt to Unchained Rogue" on the last chronicle you played before the rebuild. If your GM feels compelled to initial it, great. If not, no big deal.

Nope, you are entitled to the rebuild and can do it without any sign-offs or anything. PFS is still at least mostly a trust-based campaign, and we generally trust that our players are going to do the right thing until we see that they don't.

Cool. Thanks guys.

Basically, you should probably document the rebuild (not in-detail, just that it happened), but no, you don't need any kind of sign-off on it.

Honestly, we are pretty much trusting you not to rebuild your character in between each session, so asking you to sign off when you *are* allowed to rebuild it would start to get a little silly.

So I recently came back into society play from like a 2-3 year hiatus and when I came back the GM's forgot to inform me of the new Pathfinder unchained rules until after I had already played my Knife Master rogue. Is there anything I can do or anyway I might have a slim chance of a rebuild for this character?

Pathfinder Unchained and its rebuild presented an exciting opportunity that not everybody saw when it first happened. I can understand not seeing it if you were taking a break from the game at the time. If it's an honest mistake and you have only played the once since, contact the GM (perhaps loop in your closest venture-officer just for good measure) and let them know that you just heard about this opportunity and intend to take that rebuild. It's been a while since the unchained rebuild offer happened, so few GMs would think to remind players about it now.

It's the same process I would associate with realizing a faction were retired or had changed. By the way, check out the factions if you haven't already.

Welcome back to the organized play program!

Huh. I didn't realize this was an option. What's the timing on this? And where can I find the exact rules for what's allowed in doing this rebuild?

I have a rogue I haven't played since August 2014. I didn't play much PFS for about a year in 2014 and 2015, and this guy was never my favorite PC, so I just haven't played him in a while.

Thanks.

Thanx Mr. Compton. Appreciate the help. :)

I add my thanks too. Maybe links to the rebuild official posts could be added to the Additional Resources to let people such as I know about it :-)

I missed the free rebuild, so does retraining 11 levels of rogue into 11 levels of unchained rogue cost 5 days & 5pp /per level (as UC pre-dates unchained and so isnt shown on the tables?)

You played your rogue after unchained came out?

Silver Crusade 4/5

Just rebuilt mine last night. Like I said, I haven't played him in nearly 2 years, so he still qualified for the free rebuild.

I kinda got bored with that PC, partially because his personality was a little boring, and partially because he wasn't as effective as I'd hoped. Qassir was my attempt at the Halfling Opportunist prestige class, and I discovered once he got there that the signature ability sounds cool, but just doesn't work very often. But he actually wasn't a terrible rogue otherwise. His trapfinding really made a difference in Bonekeep, part 1, and I'll be playing Bonekeep 2 this weekend, which is why I'm thinking of pulling him out of semi-retirement. I figure we'll probably want a trap finder, and almost nobody plays rogues at our local store.

In this case, going unchained is just a straight upgrade, despite not needing the dex to damage from the unchained Finesse. He already had one level of Dawnflower Dervish bard to get dex to damage on his scimitar, along with the 4 levels of rogue, and two levels of Halfling Opportunist.

One of his rogue talents is unchanged, and the other is slightly better in the unchained version. Sneak Attack is also slightly better. Danger Sense is slightly better than Trap Sense, because it helps in perception checks to avoid being surprised. But the big upgrade is Debilitating Injury at level 4 unchained rogue, which should help quite a bit, especially for a PC that's a level behind the 3/4 BAB progression due to multi-classing.

Who is Don, and why do we want to free him?
