weapon finesse clubs and canes

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

I would like to use a shillelagh with my vigilante character basically he is a cane fighter. i have a question about the weapon finesse rule. weapon finesse applies to light weapons shillelagh or blackthorn cane falls technically into clubs. but a club is weighted different then a cane. much larger head and body light maces specifically say metal head and/or body. IRL the techniques for a rapier and cane are very similar. However we have a rules lawyer in the group who likes to shut players down over technicalities. as this is for PFS I can't simply create a new weapon. so i don't know what to call it.

Just go by whatever the Weapons Table designates them as.

Shillelagh works on Quarterstaves and Clubs.

Neither of those are classified as Light Weapons.

'Club's I believe come in all shapes and sizes. How they are weighted is irrelevant. As the cost is free it can literally be whatever piece of wood you find... Besides, 'Cane fighting' isn't really recognizable enough to be 'like a rapier.' Poking someone with a stick isn't that much of a threat. Canes used as clubs to beat people to death like Mr. Hyde was famous for... That's more common ;)

Personally, I use a masterpiece club for my oracle who has a cane. I think you could probably use a light mace too. "A light mace is made up of an ornate metal head attached to a simple wooden or metal shaft." That sounds like a fancy cane to me...

However the problem is the Rules Lawyer. I do not see any way you will ever be able to use the 'cane', Shillelagh AND Finesse all on the same weapon. Even if you can get the cane/club/mace finesseable... Shllelagh is rather specific on exactly WHAT weapons it'll work on. 'Clubs and Quarterstaff'

Not seeing a lot of wiggle room there...

so light mace it is.
