Solo XP question

Rules Questions

I'm getting ready to run a (premade) solo adventure for a friend of mine. It lists a CR 2 Encounter as being worth 600xp.

Now, if I'm reading the rules correctly, a party of 1-3 PC's gets 200 xp from a 600 xp Encounter.

So should he get 200 xp if he defeats this Encounter, or should he get the full 600?...

The exact rule is, give the full amount to the PCs and they divide it equally. So your player's character gets the full 600 XP.

Exact XP: Once the game session is over, take your list of defeated CR numbers and look up the value of each CR on Table: Experience Point Awards under the “Total XP” column. Add up the XP values for each CR and then divide this total by the number of characters—each character earns an amount of XP equal to this number.

Right under that is an "Abstract XP" suggestion which I have found quite inaccurate. For example, if you use the "Exact" method, your player's character gets 600 XP from this encounter, which is "exactly" what it's worth, but if you use the "abstract" method, he only gets 200 which is 1/3 of what it's worth - the "abstract" method only works when you have exactly 3, 4, or 6 characters; for any other number of characters, the "abstract" method gives them the wrong amount.
