Xin and Giant-kind, specifically Rune Giants

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Ok, it's a known fact that it was the Runelords not Xin that created the Rune Giants, as well as inverted giants.

Were these discoveries something that Xin approved of, abhorred, or was incredibly jealous of?

The swords of sin, all of that stuff, seemed to enrage Xin in part because he had not done it first but also because it seemed that they were perversions of Rune Magic, perhaps misuses of it in ways he did not approve.

Anyone have any guesses on the subject, or if God would like to enter and explain that would be cool too.

If I remember correctly, Rune Giants were mainly a Sorshen thing. She created them to enslave giants. (Sorshen was one of the only two Runelords who held the office during the entire length of Thassilon's existence.)

Also remember that Xin himself, wasn't really that nice a guy.

Do you have any references for Sorshen creating the Rune Giants?

Xin was an idealist, but not inherently evil like his Runelords were. He was always looking towards the big picture it seemed. And if some giants were enslaved or some people misplaced or crushed under the treads of progress, so be it!

I'm trying to remember where I read it, I believe its in one of the Shattered Star backstories.

And when it comes to Xin, remember that it was he who brought worship of Lissala to his new empire, and it's the more evil version of Lissala that we know about today. Again, not a nice guy, although he may have been self-deluded enough to think so, like your average egomanical Dr. Doom type wizard.

I think Xin was already dead before the Rune Giants were created?

Edit: Xin was probably lawful neutral - IIRC he'd left Azlant because wanting to work with "lesser" races (Varisians, Shoanti, etc.) instead of just outright enslaving them made him a pariah.

Shattered Star has a LOT of info about these topics. And Xin was most certainly around while at least ONE rune giant had been created...
