WOTR Sword of Valor Henchmen Printing Error?

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Hello,

Just got AD2 for WOTR and two henchmen list combat twice under the same difficulty as a check to defeat. The henchmen that do this are:

Undead Company and Worldwound Cadre.

For example, on the top right side of Undead Company:

Undead Company wrote:

Type

Barrier

Check to Defeat

Combat
Combat
Divine
16

OR

Melee
Stealth
Fortitude
12

Is this a mistake?

Pathfinder ACG Developer

It is not a mistake. The henchman requires that all characters defeat it, so in this way two characters can do combat.

Ah, of course. Silly me.

Haven't gotten my box so I'll ask, since it isn't an error.

I assume the henchman requires every character not only defeat it, but use a different check than the rest of the party?

It's explicitly on the henchmen in question, that each character must use a different check. :)

Cool. Figured as much from the posts before mine but wanted to be sure, haven't gotten my A2 yet. I like that mechanic, changes things up a bit.

Having played adventure 2 in OP at origins that is not an error. The henchmen I believe is a barrier. Has a total of 6 possible checks to defeat and each character must make a different one. There are repeats among them sometimes so two characters may opt to do the same check if it is listed more than once.

The henchman says "Each character attempts a different check to defeat..."

Does this mean each character is encountering the barrier? Does it apply to all characters in the scenario, or just at the location? It could get pretty awful if all 6 characters have to encounter the barrier and no one has fortitude for example.

Pathfinder ACG Developer

All characters in the scenario. 6 characters have a tough challenge with armies, but usually have an easier time with most other henchmen.

How does evasion work with armies? If the initial person encountering it can evade, is the army just shuffled back in? Can any other character evade one of the checks? I assume the first question is yes, and the second is no, but want to make sure.

Pathfinder ACG Developer

Correct on both counts.

Only the first person is actually *encountering* the card, so they're the only one that could possibly evade it.

I appreciate the confirmation!

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.
