Golarion analog for Voodoo?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Shadow Lodge

Is there any culture or ethnicity in Golarion which serves as an analog for real-world/traditional fantasy voodoo practices? There's a number of class features and feats that fit - I'm mostly interested in a region or culture rather than mechanical options.

I'd put a strong voodoo presence in the Shackles - it's already the Golarion Caribbean equivalent, so that's a natural fit.

The Path of Juju, also known as wendo, has a whole article in the Serpent Skull Adventure Path (in Chapter 3, to be specific), as well as being detailed in Faiths and Philosophies. It's listed as a common belief system in the Mwangi Expanse, Sargava, and the Shackles and has an associated Oracle Mystery. It's basically tribal animism + Hollywood voodoo thrown in a blender.

So...yeah, that's what you use for voodoo.

Yep, and the juju zombie is more based on 'real' zombi than the Romero zombie. Granted, they are still undead and therefore still evil, but they are more like the drugged state that the many books and movies that are supposedly non-fiction attribute to a real life zombi. The story is the drug puts you in a death-like state and you are buried. Then the voudoun who drugged you digs you up and tells you that you're a zombi now and his slave. Considering you were declared dead and buried and may or may not have some brain damage from low oxygen in the coffin before he dug you up, you believe him.

Now granted, how much of that is ACTUALLY true and how much is the voudouns BSing the people that ask too many questions, is a hotly debated topic when looking for the truth, non of which is helped by the city of New Orleans which has the whole tourism industry based around voodoo (or did... I haven't been to New Orleans since Katrina, but I imagine for the most part it's business as usual by now)... it's in the best interest of the voudouns to come off as sinister cause that's how they make their money from gullible tourists... or is it all real?

If you haven't seen it Wes Craven's The Serpent and the Rainbow is a great look at real life zombi (as I said though, the truth of it all though is still hotly debated, that movie is about as true as you are going to get without going down there and finding out for yourself... if they'd even tell you the truth)

I miss the Serpent's Skull version. ^_^

Ah true, well if you have it you can always use it instead (unless you play PFS)
