I'm not sure if there was a specific ruling but was having trouble finding a good answer.
Can you youse use magic device to, for example, activate a holy avenger as if you were a paladin, or wear a witching gown and get the bonus as if a witch?
Instead what about already being a wizard, but not a transmuter, and umding annihilation spectacles to act as if you had chosen the transmutation school? Or an Oracle using umd ona ring of revelation from a different mystery.
If interested in why I am asking, I wanted to make someone specialized in umd and have quirky items worn, trying to use it as much as I can. If you have suggestions for items other than staffs, wands, and scrolls would be appreciated as well!

Use Magic Device lets you use a magic item
as if you had the spell ability or class features of another
class, as if you were a different race, or as if you were of a
different alignment.
by sheer lawyerism that means the spectacles and ring trick will work since schools and revelations are class features, but the avenger..not so much, as you'd have to emulate an entire class and the book only mentions being able to emulate features
Of course if you find a class feature or race that lets you pass for a paladin you can then emulate that and go around the limit

Unless the class is the power source of an item, such as a Paladin would be for a Holy Avenger. It's a GM's call on a case by case basis. At the very least you'd also have to emulate the alignment if you aren't lawful good already.
