[PBP][CORE]Thornkeep level 2. The Forgotten Laboratory (2-4) - ASAP

Online Play

5/5

Hi,

Recruiting for a CORE PBP for the combat heavy second level of Thornkeep.

A minimum character level of 3 is adviced.

Posting of at least once a day is required, posting twice or more is appreciated.

I want to finish the module in 2 months or less (AKA before GenCon 2015)

tl;dr
I want to play, I do not have a Core character at 3, my highest is still 1, but could bring a pregen 4. I think you should consider a handful of online sessions instead of doing pbp if you hope to be finished by GenCon, but i'll roll with whatever. And now the rambles!

the rant:
Gods, as much as I WANT to play this, I would have to bring a pre-gen because my highest CORE character is still level 1. A bit of concern though, pbp is hilariously slow, even if you had people posting once a day (side note..yikes, that is a tad intimidating during the summer for parents of kids) that is 60-90 posts. Take a look at http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?410948-The-Messengers-IC (the first PbP game I found on gitp's forums that was 60-90 posts long, there are many more examples) They are 86 posts in as of right now and still what a tabletop or online game would have been 45 minutes, for a 5 hour long session like that, neglecting the fact combat is literally insane in pbp, you are talking more about 4-6 months (people get better and more efficient, more done each day), not 2, definitely not less. My advice is find your folks on here that are interested, and either do the full 5 hour session when all of us can, or arrange a few shorter sessions like 2 hours here, 2 hours there, and knock it out. Not bashing PbP, but it doesn't do well on a time limit.

Core level 4 pregens are indeed welcome!

I ran it before for a 4 person group as a PBP and that took 4 months, but they ran into a little trouble. With a 5 person group and regular posting 2 months could be possible IMHO.

I'll sign up with as a Ranger 4 pregen (Harsk) if we can get people who are willing to post often.

Ok, we got 2, still need 3 more!

Ixious, level 4 iconic
Junar, Level 4 Harsk

The Exchange 5/5

kyra, level 4 iconic cleric.

I'll sign up with a level 4 pregen as well. Any preferences for the party? I'd prefer something melee-y. Probably Barbarian or Paladin.

Cool! 4 players

Ixious still has to choose an iconic and Quentin has to choose either Barbarian or Paladin (Both are quite good IMHO).

Room for 1 more! (5 players will work best)

I'll set up threads in a couple of hours.

I'd like to join as well! Which pregens are still open?

Kyra, Harsk, and either Amiri or Seelah are taken.

Merisel, Valeros, Seoni, Ezren, Lini and Lem are still open.

Can I also take Lem?

So... Who didn't play (or ran) the adventure before? If there are players that haven't played it I would like to assign them as the leader(s) of the party.

Lem is available too!

Sczarni 3/5

Lem it is!

Ok, we got 5! Ready to go!

Junar, Level 4 Harsk
Carla, Level 4 Lem
Seraphimpunk, Level 4 Kyra
Quentin, level 4 Amiri/Seelah
Ixious, level 4 iconic

Quentin & Ixious, can I have your choices please?

I'll go with Seelah, I think.
I've already played this non-Core, by the way.

If everyone would be so kind to complete this sheet. It will help to speed up the game considerably! :-)

Gameplay thread!

Just home from work. I've not played this in any game mode so I'm looking forward to it. I've played the first mod a couple of times.

Quick question about my pregen:
My sheet says I have Power Attack, but I believe the damage calculation is wrong:
Power Attack Before attacking, Seelah may choose to take a –2 penalty on all melee attack rolls and combat maneuver checks until her next turn and gain a +6 bonus on melee damage rolls.
However, Seelah wields her weapon one-handed, as she carries a heavy shield. I believe the +6 should be a +4, but I might be missing something. Should I stick to the pregen, or use the "correct" Power Attack value?
(Might be nerfing myself here, but I'd like to play fair.)

You never have to use a shield. It's there as an optiion. If I understand it correctly, she'd just use the weapon two handed.

Indeed.

So -2/+4 with shield or -2/+6 without.

Auke please check your messages on here, I sent you a PM.

Okay, thanks for the info. I'll use the shield by default, so it'll be -2/+4 unless I say otherwise.

The game has started!
