Can a Squire be a Skald?

They do have martial weapon proficiency, which seems to be the main requirement.

Add Flagbearer feat and you've got yourself quite the source of support.

Or a fun buffer guy:

Orcish skald or bard.

Traits:
Tribal
improvised defence

Feat:
Flagbearer

Equip:
Tribal standard

While doing nothing (no action economy cost) he already gets +2 to saves vs fear, +2 to hit, +1 to weapon damage, +1 shield bonus to AC.
But his offhand is occupied.

He can still use raging song (skald), inspire courage (bard), cast spells or go melee.

Not as strong as a pet class but far from worthless.

Now what I'd like is all that plus the guy is dervish dancing :)

Given that the banner wouldn't be a normal weapon (an improvised one at best), you could dervish dance with one, right? - If you did, would you still get the Improvised Defense bonus?

I'm still not clear on the answers to the questions:

1. Can a Skald be gained with the Squire feat?

2. Does Flagbearer work with Dervish Dancing?

3. Does it continue to work if the flag is also used as an improvised tool of defense?

Would be interesting to me for the novelty of a dex based ork.

1) Yes; the feat is quite clear.

2) I don't see why not, as it's neither a weapon nor a shield.

3) Even if you could use the flagpole as an improvised weapon (which I'm not 100% on; I'd rule it to be a two-handed weapon due to size)... it's now being wielded as a weapon, which violates Dervish Dance. I think the Flagbearer feat would keep working, though.

Bear in mind that this character will have some trouble casting his skald spells without a free hand. Otherwise, rock on!
