Liberty's Edge 5/5

2 people marked this as a favorite.

So, I was skeptical about the midday break. I typically go to conventions to get in as much PFS as possible over the three or four days. Even my off slots at Gen Con, I try to play PFS or go to the dealer room.

But after experiencing it, I really liked it. I went to a couple seminars. Enjoyed a nice alone time breakfast. Got to chat extendedly with John Compton, Mike Brock, Linda Zayas Palmer, Owen K.C. Stephens, Mark Seifter, Stephen Radney-McFarland, Erik Mona, Lisa Stephens, James Sutter, and Liz Courtz to name a few. I also got a 2-1/2 hour nap in before the special, that was really nice.

I loved it.

Sovereign Court 2/5

Pretty much identical to my opinion.

One thing I disliked about volunteering at gencon (and I understand fully that I volunteered for it and knew exactly what I was getting into so this is not a complaint) was that if I volunteered for Tier I, I'd have very little time to eat between games and I'd be super hungry unless someone brought me some food. So I imagine as a volunteer this was a welcome improvement.

I think it would have been nice if the last slot started at 6 and got out at 11. I'm somewhat of a local, so I chose to drive to Paizocon, but the commute was rather long (30-50 minutes) and I'd wind up getting home around 1am which was kind of rough. I'm unsure whether the open slot needed to be 6 hours (1pm-7pm), though I understand that it helps people eat, play a pick up scenario, and provides a buffer for pre-special briefing. This is very minor though and I'm sure there's a good reason for scheduling a 7-12 slot.

Had a really good time.
