Follower Vanity -- flavor?

Pathfinder Society

Liberty's Edge 5/5

Mechanically, the follow vanities are pretty unambiguous. They're never in combat, and they tend to do a single minor sort of thing.

From a flavor point of view -- what are the limitations on just what they are? Does a follower have to be a "person" (i.e. somebody who's of a "normal" race, say a campaign legal race)?

Or, could it be pretty much anything? I was thinking for instance, that my wizard might purchase a Lookout follower vanity, but make the Lookout into a homonculous or something like that. From a flavor and description point of view, how much freedom do we have to describe our followers?

Sovereign Court

I usually keep to core races, unless I find someone worth keeping in a scenario. But no one has batted an eye when (not me) I ran across a guy with an Allu herald at a game.

I obviously reprimanded my halfling porter for his lack of exoticness. Next game he wore fake horns, fake wings, and a fake tail.

4/5 ****

I remember a post from Brock saying your vanity followers had to be the same race as you.

This was after some people doing some obnoxious things with goblin followers.

I can't find that post at the moment though. Anybody's search fu doing better than mine? Or am I imagining this?

Dark Archive

Never played with different races, but I do try to give it a bit of flavor by treating my Porter follower like a butler - I've got him all dressed up in a fancy suit, have him hand me stuff when I need it then hand it back, fetch meals at inns, and whenever the rest of the party is taking too long to do something and I'm bored, have him fill me a glass of wine while I watch them do the silly dirty work (he carries several bottles and glasses, and if you ask nice enough, I may even share).

My Herald and my Squire are my twin daughters Mina and Lucie. As both daughters have expressed interest in the pathfinder society (and Lucie got expelled from finishing school for smiting one of her teachers) as a career choice, my wife and I see this as a great opportunity to discourage such ambitions while preparing them should they continue on this rash course. While we would rather they choose something safer such as work in the Blackros museum (Mina does love history) we will support our children regardless.

Sincerely,

Ambrose Maximillian Demetrius Dalsine

Spoiler:
Mina and Lucie are 1 xp grandfathered Aasimars who will mot see play until their parents are retired
