Wand of Unseen Servant vs Wand of Mount.

Scarab Sages

Which one is the most useful in and out of combat?

Man, that depends on context. Both are great for action economy -- being able to do more with your turn.

Unseen Servants are very versatile. So versatile that I just dropped 1K for a page of spell known to add it to the permanent spell list of my eighth level sorceress. They can carry stuff. They can grab your wands and scrolls out., saving you move actions -- hello Breath of Life Scroll to save a party member from dying in that round. They can set off traps and go into dangerous areas. It can hammer or make a distracting noise while you go off somewhere else. The limit is your imagination, or 20 pounds worth of force. I love them.

Mounts are awesome for mobility and for preserving your move actions as a caster for other stuff. Of course, mounts work better if you have ride skill, which is challenging to allocate the points for as an arcane caster (unless you're a bard.) Horses and ponies work better in wide open spaces -- less well in dungeons.

Given a choice between the two, I'd go with unseen servant. However, wands are cheap. Once you get more money, you could do both.

I personally like Mount spell. It can be used for a whole mess of things.
1. Trigger traps Typically weighs more than 100 lbs of dragging
2. Cover from arrows. A little sadistic but it works.
3. Can combo with a pit spell. 30 feet above the hole that is 30 feet deep. That is 60 feet of falling damage...a Large horse takes up the entirety of the hole.
4. Can actually ride it like you're supposed to.
5. Paired with Explosive Glyphs you can deliver the mount as a sacrifice or "gift" to watch the hilarious effect of them reading the Runes.
6. Can summon it to carry things for you thus eliminating Floating disk spell.

I could go on a bit more but the mount spell is just so freaking good.

The only thing the Unseen servant has it can give you a back massage.

See... that's my problem. I just can't summon things to kill them. I just don't think that way.

(The prime reason I've never run a summoner of any type.)

I admit that Fruian is right about all these uses of the Mount spell. I just can't do it!

Yeah my ethical code tends to be very dark gray. Especially how I tend to play casters.

mount lasts longer but takes longer to call into play. Get both if you can.

I can see this but since "Summoned" creatures don't actually die I don't think its really that bad. You could make an argument for its Psychological well being, or something like that, but yeah.

Oh and I totally prefer the Mount spell. Give me utility any day.
