Poison Use & Creation

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

Hello All-
I have a character with the Poison Use ability. Along with the Craft (Alchemy) skill. I have a few questions about certain aspects of this ability.
Now I know that I cannot accidently poison myself upon application, but does poison use allow you to disregard the natural 1 roll on an attack or at creation?
Also, during a recent game, after killing a Giant King Cobra, I asked if using my Alchemy skill could I extract some of the poison from the creature to use on this scenario only. Is that able to be done and legal in PFS? Does that count as 'creation' with the same natural 1 risk if applicable?
Thanks in advance, I really appreciate any feedback.

That would be outside the scope of the scenario, and of PFS, because it would require the GM to devise their own rules on how to harvest that poison, as well as how much could be harvested.

Thanks Nefreet. When then would a character have time to 'craft poisons'? Can't really take game time to do it. Or is the crafting just useless? Like did I waste ranks on the Craft Alchemy skill? Is it my only recourse to buy them? I'd hate to think I put skill points into a skill that's only use is for day job checks.

Having the Poison Use class feature puts you into a small elite group.

Any character with the Poison Use class ability can purchase and use poisons. For now, they are the only classes that have a list of "always available poisons" (those noted below)—no other class may purchase poisons unless they appear on a Chronicle sheet or in another legal source. Alchemists, ninja, and poisoner rogues may only purchase the following poisons: black adder venom, bloodroot, giant wasp poison, greenblood oil, large scorpion venom, malyass root paste, Medium spider venom, nitharit, shadow essence, small centipede poison, terinav root.

Crafting, on the other hand, is very limited in PFS, but not entirely useless. You've probably picked the most useful Craft available. It appears in many scenarios.

If you're an Alchemist, you can use Craft Alchemy to craft alchemical items on a 3 for 1 price basis (including poisons). This makes Alchemists the best choice for poison-focused characters. Ninjas and Poisoner Rogues can purchase poisons, but not craft them.

Pathfinder Lost Omens Subscriber

6th level discovery for alchemists, poison conversion is the poisoner's best friend BTW, turn everything into inhaled, DC +2 for every dose the other side receives, making that DC climb pretty quickly.

Liberty's Edge

Hello again. Thanks to all for the direction. I read that 'Poisoner Rogues' can craft poisons as well as Alchemists. Did I read that wrong? Also, when crafting poisons am I limited to the poison list for PFS or can I craft other ones? I mean the ones on the list are for 'purchase', but it doesn't say you can't make others. Also, does anyone know all the poisons available in the books that are not listed in the main book? I mean like accepted books for PFS play.
Thanks in advance!

Depends =). Where did you read it?

I'm fairly certain that Crafting is limited to Alchemists (and, most recently, Investigators) though I may be wrong. I've never met or played a poison-focused character in almost 3 years of PFS, so I can't say poisons are my forte.

In PFS you're not really crafting, per se, but rather purchasing at a discounted price.

I quoted the list of "Always Available" poisons earlier. You can freely craft those (assuming you're an Alchemist).

I do not, but I'm sure it's been done before. Just either try a Google search or look in the Advice forum. Check the Additional Resources page, of course, as well.

I wish you the best of luck! Poisons always seemed intriguing but they're just so difficult to implement and use, especially when most players will have killed your target before it can be effectively "debuffed".
