Animal companion +10 int skill ranks?

Rules Questions

Hi does a animal companion who gets 10 or more int have (1+int mod)*nr of HD or (1+int mod+2)*nr of HD? because creature type animal gets (1+int mod+2)*nr of HD.

Look at the Animal Companion table. You'll notice that animal companions, which usually have only INT 2-3, get 1 skill rank per HD. That's normal since animals get 2 skill ranks per level, modified by INT modifier, minimum 1. If the animal companion raises its INT to 10, then it no longer has a penalty, and gets 2 skill ranks per HD. If it keeps raising it's INT, it can get more. This is set forth in the rules:

"Skills

This lists the animal's total skill ranks. Animal companions can assign skill ranks to any skill listed under Animal Skills. If an animal companion increases its Intelligence to 10 or higher, it gains bonus skill ranks as normal."

Or put another way:

An animal companion with less than 10 INT gets 1 skill rank per HD
An animal companion with 10-11 INT gets 2 skill ranks per HD
An Animal companion with 12-13 INT gets 3 skill ranks per HD
An Animal companion with 14-15 INT gets 4 skill ranks per HD
and so on...

Animal Companions get 2+INT modifier (minimum 1) per HD.

If your animal companion somehow got a permanent 10 INT (20th level Druid that put every point in INT would only give it a 6), it would have 2 skill points per HD.

A 20th level Paladin, with a Divine Bond (mount), could get their mount's Int to 10, since their Animal Companion starts with an Int of 6.

And, I suppose, if you could somehow get it to read a Tome of Clear Thought, it could even get its Int up to 15.

But, keep in mind, that a Headband of Vast Intelligence, the most common method of increasing a creature's Int, works differently from those other two methods.

The aforementioned 20th level mount would have 2 skill points per Hit Die. With a +5 Tome, it'd have 4 skill points per Hit Die.

But the headband has a skill associated with it, so a creature with a natural Int of 6, wearing a headband +2, actually has more skill points than if that creature just put two ability increases into Int.

A 5th level Paladin mount, for example, wearing a headband +6, would have 4 skill points per Hit Die, despite having only a 12 Int (whereas a "normal" animal with an Int of 12 would only have 3 skill points per Hit Die).

It's just different enough to bare mentioning.
