We are playing this week, after a 3 week hiatus!
But we got TPK'd. How would we have known that Enemy Ships would be this hard?
So in actuality, I have a +3 to Survival. And +2 to Wisdom. And both of the Enemy Ships I pulled have a Survival 6 to defeat. And somehow I pulled both. In fact, I defeated 3 of the 4 henchmen and temp closed the last location. I autodefeated all the ships I came across.
Since we could use Class 5 ships now, we tried out Mistmourn, the promo ship you get from 5. Turns out evasion's not bad if you don't have to pay for it until you absolutely need to. And you always have access to it.
Anyways, since we could evade the villain for the low cost of 1 blessing card from the blessings deck, we did so when she appeared at Tempest Cay, waiting to murderize our lovely Radillo. And Adelita would have gotten away with it too. Except the evasion. So yeah, about that thing about promos being optional, they don't affect the game _that_ much...
We could have gotten 2 5 spells, but one of the was picked up by Radillo... and she couldn't actually make a Wisdom/Divine check to save her life.
Meanwhile, I get 4 plunder cards by myself... and not a single 4 or 5...
Even then, we got lucky. We had 2 blessings in the blessings discard pile at the end of it, and I would have hated it if Gilbrok got a curse on any one of us, or something else. A lot of things went right for us here.
Lastly, Tanis, what does this mean? I can't actually parse it (it's from the scenario):
"Well, at least you didn’t set the wind up two of the most infamous pirates to sail the Shackles."
Is "set the wind up" some type of pirate term I've never heard before?

I think it's more Victorian, actually. Variant of "get the wind up."

That wording is a lot like the phrase “put the wind up” or “get the wind up," which usually refers to disturbing someone or making them frightened or uneasy.
Some people assume that first phrase has nautical origins, but even the Oxford English Dictionary is unsure about that.
However, I like this essay on the subject: "Put the Wind Up"

So we (Agna, Flenta, Heggal, Zarlova, and Amaryllis) stomped this one pretty well on Tuesday. There were definitely not any failed rolls for which Amaryllis had to bury cards for rerolls, no Cannibals that ate her Guide, or any henchman fights that would have wiped out Amaryllis' deck that she used her Cape of Escape to avoid. Nah. Definitely not a big pile of buried cards to be found.
Neither was there a traditional Flenta roll which barely beat the number of dice, nor was there global damage dealt multiple times thanks to bad luck with "before you act" effects. Don't know what you're talking about. Maybe you had some of that weird rum for which we spent the last month or three searching around the Shackles.
In the end, Flenta and Amaryllis teamed up to beat down the Villain a second time and loot a big pile o' booty. One thing we all wanted to keep was the Ring of Regeneration (Item 5), but sadly instead you have to pick an Item out of your box. I ended up getting my Wand of Treasure Finding with it; I certainly didn't need an Armor 5 and the Sorceress Item 5s are pretty bad. (Others picked up Ally upgrades, and we didn't find a single Spell. :(
In March we continue on to the next adventure!
