Need help with Templates

Homebrew and House Rules

Hey guys,

As you may or may not have noticed, I decided to try my hand on some Homebrew characters, but while Playtesting we stumbled on the problem of Space. So I decided to work my characters so far in the Templates which are offered by Paizo.

But, I'm totally bad with computers and software and I can't figure out how to edit the .pdf-files to add text or make the lines of the tables different.

Anyone any ideas/tips/experiences to help me out?

Thanks guys!

This is one of the easiest solutions.

You can edit the PDF with certain photo editing software. Adobe Photoshop (even the Elements version) should work, as well as GIMP (which is free).

Here's what I have tried to do. Note, this can be a very long process if you want to get it exactly right, but of you're just going for a quick job it doesn't take that long:

First, I take the MSE template that Hawk linked to there. You can use that to get most of the Skill and Card stuff, as well as get the right font for the powers. Unfortunately, especially with Role cards, powers are almost guaranteed to not fit, and there are a few other weird blemishes, such as lines under hand size. At that point, I pull it into Paint (If you have a better editing software, I'd recommend it, but for these purposes, paint actually isn't bad), and do things like adjust the height of the power boxes, remove lines under Hand Size and Card feats, etc. Often I will export the card several times, essentially taking chunks of the powers over each time, and pasting them in, which avoids the text squish that happens otherwise. When I'm on my game, it probably takes about an hour for one card, not counting the Art, which is a beast in and of itself.

Like I said, if you don't want perfect, I'd just use MSE, and unless it's egregious, just accept the text squish that happens. For powers that just don't fit, you can just export twice and a simple copy/paste gets you the rest of the way. It's probably about 20 minutes per card that way, with role cards taking much longer than character cards.

Right. I've been working on MSE and paint now. Which seem to work.
But I can't figure out the Font. Can somebody tell me which Font is used on the Cards and what size?

Sovereign Court

it's the DAX Font.
The size depends.
For the Character card :
Name : 16 (Bold)
Favored Card : 7 (Bold)
Cards list and traits : 7 (Bold)

For the Role card
Powers : 7 (Bold)
Hand Size / Proficient With : 6 (Bold)
Powers description : 6 (Regular)
Powers Flavour : 7,5 (Regular)
Name / Role : 16 (Bold)

For the Token card :
Name : 16 (Bold)
Traits : 7 (Bold)

I hope it helps you.

Yeah, this helps.

Problem is that DAX Font isn't regular on Windows software is it?
Closest thing I could fine was probably some online webshop selling it for $200+

But I do appreciate your input, Ludwig!

You will probably find what you want here ;)
