Does the Blinded Condition effect Reflex Saves?

Rules Questions

Shadow Lodge

The title is pretty self explanatory but if a character is blinded do they lose their Dexterity bonus to reflex saves as well as to AC? It would seem weird that a character who can't see cannot react to a massive greatsword but would somehow know where to leap to escape a grenades explosion.

Not according to RAW. The Blinded condition lists no penalty to REF saves.

That said, it makes sense as a houserule.

Or you could very easily assume that most weapon attacks are a little quieter than most effects that require a REF save, so maybe its easier to hear a grenade landing nearby or a dragon breathing fire or whatever. It's a stretch, but maybe plausible much of the time.

By RAW, blindness doesn't denies DEX bonus to Reflex saves.

That said, I don't think it would be deny the DEX bonus or to give a penalty to REF saves depending on the situation, like a dragon's breath.

Remember, if you deny a creature DEX Bonus to saves, it's not like the creature has no DEX at all. A creature that's completly denied DEX to saves has a -5 penalty. When you are denyied your DEX bonus to saves or AC, it means you are still trying to avoid attacks or explosions like a regular creature with DEX 10. So, denying the DEX bonus to a blind creature really doesn't seem that far out, to me.

Grand Lodge

Conditions do not impart any penalties beyond what they say they do.

That's the rules answer. DM's are free to vary on that as they see fit.
