Paladin of Abadar in the different factions

I'm looking to make a Paladin to Abadar and, while looking over the different factions, noticed that a worshipper to the god of civilization and commerce could very easily fit into most of the Pathfinder factions.
How would you think a paladin would view Abadar's code through the eyes of the faction's beliefs?
How might those changes of view change the roleplaying aspect of the character, do you think?

Meet Tog

I'm going to try and indirectly answering your questions by telling you about one of my characters.

Tog is a Protector of the Great Vault (aka. Paladin of Abadar)

He's lovable, adorable, 6'5" and not too bright.

He's curious about the world and has joined the pathfinder society despite his lack of mental acuity.

He has found his calling inside of the society helping to guard the vaults that the Dark Archive oversees. Tog like guarding things, gives him sense of purpose, a job he understands, and one that pleases Abadar.

Recently he's just barely passed his exams as a Pathfinder and is out on his confirmation. Because sometimes guarding doors is boring, even for Tog.

He thinks the silly Dralneen lady wasn't loved enough by her daddy as a little girl, but knows that everybody has issues and shouldn't be dismissed just because they have problems, Tog knows he has plenty himself.

Sad Tog:
Tog's first incarnation was killed in p1 of Thornkeep, having never had a character die in PFS at level 1 before and having surprisingly already found a voice for him I decided to just make him again.

I tend to lump these fine folk into The Exchange, on the assumption that they only go for the legitimate trade arrangements.

I had honestly considered that type of mentality for a guardian of the Vault joining the Dark Archive. Another might think, "As dangerous as these items are to the various civilizations, I am honorbound to make sure they are never used for that Evil intent."
I could easily see the Exchange going to the Church and bartering a c ontract for clerics and paladins to bless and defend business ventures.
A young paladin raised in Almas might think that freedom and everyone working towards the greater good is just keen while an older Taldon Abadarian might join the Sovereign Court to promote a return to the traditional ways of nobility.
Those are just a few of the differing ways to look at the code that I've found.
I like guardian of the vault, by the way, I'm taking that. :-)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

My Paladin of Abadar is Chelaxian and always will be. He grew up in Cheliax and swallowed the party-line whole. He just found the Asmodeans a little too free and loose with the rules. A stronger hand is in order. Hence Abadar.

Lape was actually originally inspired by a table-mate quipping that Lawful doesn't mean following local laws blindly. The natural contrarion in me thought, why not? Hmm? Who is the most by-the-book, whatever the local book is I could come up with. Paladin (Oath against Chaos) of Abadar, Hellknight Aspirant and considers himself a direct liegeman of the Paracountess. One more XP and he'll be taking his vows. Haven't decided which order of Hellknights yet.
