Interesting.
From the description, I'd have to say that the orbit has been modified via some sort of magic. I'd imagine gravity wells from other planets would occasionally pull the planet out of any stable orbit it would eventually develop and only using some powerful energy source would allow it to become semi-stable.
Maybe like a self-correcting corkscrew.

Well, yes. the X-Z or Y-Z plane would be perpendicular to the X-Y. I was getting hung up on the combination of non-elliptical and erratic portion of the orbital description.
