Here's a question: does anyone know what is meant to lie to the east of Galt and the River Kingdoms?
I know that the Sea of Castroval lies there, with Iabaria to the north of it, but on the maps I have there is essentially a blank space between the eastern border of the River Kingdoms and Galt and the coast of the Sea.
So what's there? Any ideas?
My Kingmaker group want to go exploring past the end of the campaign and may head that way.

I don't think there's a canon answer to this. If there's a country there we don't know it's name.
The map of Iobaria has the Castrovin Sea coming up as far north as Restov, and Galt extends east a little further than Restov. I'd imagine it's unclaimed land or land claimed by Galt or Taldor but effectively ungoverned. Huge swaths of wind-swept plains until you hit the Sea. I'd put horse nomads there, and/or centaurs like they have in the Nomen Heights, but that's just me.

I'll second what karlprosek said.
Nothing has been detailed in canon, although books have mentioned that Ninshabur and Kaskkari lie along the western and southwestern edges of the Castrovin Sea.

This might help. According to this fan map, there is mountain range called the worlds edge mountains, they start at the castroval sea and travel in a cresent arch along the eastern edge of Galt Taldor and Qadira where it curves around into a semicircle on the nortern edge of the empire of kelish which Kidira is a province or satrapy of.
on the inside of this arch of mountains is a desert, a second smaller ring of hills, then a huge pit, namely the pit of Gormuz. It looks almost like a meteor impact with an inner and outer circular ridges.
on the eastern border of that is the Catroval sea.
while not official i hope it helps,

I've seen that map before. One problem it has is that the Castrovin Sea doesn't come north as far as the published map of Iobaria shows. I don't have a problem with the spur of mountains it puts east of Galt, but if we're doing fan assumptions I prefer a grassland where I can put a bunch of Mongols.

That's awesome stuff!
It looks as if the World's Edge Mountains extend in a curve to meet the Icerime Mountains at the edge of the Castravan Sea, and on the other side lies what was Kaskkari and south of it Ninshabur. I guess if my players make it that far in expanding their Kingdom, they will be epic-level by then. Just as well as they may meet some terrible enemies from the Pit of Gormuz...
I'm compiling my own map of the region, I'll post it up here when I am done, and the adventures I write too for those interested.

Exactly! Although looking at the map scale, for the PCs to get as far as the Pit of Gormuz they'd have to explore and claim a territory larger than their current kingdom by far. I've already hex-mapped out an area south of the Varnhold map and another west of the Pitax map for the immediate future, but they have the idea that they might be able to take it all the way to the Sea of Castravin...
Well, maybe they should stick to the near geography for the time being. I think the region between the Tors of Levenies and the Icerime mountains will keep them happy for now.

Oh, wow. If they're thinking of exploring/claiming east of Galt their kingdom would be the size of Taldor. Much bigger than Brevoy. That's really ambitious. It would be fun to see how the Surtovas react to that.
I'm planning for their run-in with the Surtova's to come before then. I'm using some, but not all, of the ideas for "Beyond Kingmaker" in the appendix of Sound of a Thousand Screams. The first will be "Iron Storm" - an invasion from Numeria. In my Kingmaker, the Numerian warlords seized Mormouth when Pitax fell, and the south of Pitax broke away and re-formed the realm of Corvenn. Coclovis the Iron Wizard and his mercenaries will try and take Pitax and Fort Drelev, using their army. The PCs should be able to see this attack off (although not easily) and then will probably expand and take Mormouth and some more territory in the Glenebon Highlands.
This will be the last straw for the Surtova’s: the kingdom will by now be larger (and much richer) than Restov. Yolonia, my PCs kingdom (their name) sports a capital city larger than Restov, and the only university and magical academy in the River Kingdoms. They have a huge network of roads, mines, foundries, and have linked all the major rivers that are not linked with canals, as well as created a canal-lock system around the Shrike River falls and rapids. In other words, they are a prize worth the picking, and this will be the Rostland war.
They can then do some exploring to the south of Varnhold and east of Mivon, and some quests there will gain them some more valuable allies. After this stage I'll do Choral the Conqueror’s return, threatening their gains in Brevoy, and they'll have to go after the dragon. Hopefully this will take them up to around level 20 or beyond it.
At the same time, I have plans for a spin-off campaign: on their first expedition to the Castel of Knives, the PCs will find just outside the entrance of Thousandbreaths a group of what look like statues of adventurers: the Iron Wraiths, turned to stone. Presumably rescuing them, the PCs can direct the adventurers to Pitax. In Pitax, the Iron Wraiths will find themselves tasked with tackling the thieves’ guild and it’s allies: goblins, skum, and minotaurs. They will also get caught up in the Iron Storm events (as bit players in the defense of the city). After this, they will be asked to range to the south of Mormouth, where a swath of unclaimed land reaches all the way down to Loric’s Fells. I may or may not work in an assimilation of Corvenn into the bargain. After the main PCs hit level 20, the Iron Wraiths will take over the exploring and claiming, much as they had already intended to for Brevoy.
Yeah, we really bit the Kingmaker bug...
