Online Campaigns General Discussion

Hey all.

So I have been playing Pathfinder for years now, from PFS to my weekly home game I have a ball.
Sadly Life is getting more and more busy and I find that gaming sessions are harder and harder to schedule.
But as I work from home, on a computer no less, I thought that PbP may be the way to go.

I have done a TINY bit of it in 3.5 over on the GitP boards. but I'm not sure where to go to find a Pathfinder game.
Any advice would be great, thanks guys.

Oh and I would not mind PFS but really non is cool too.

Thanks again.

Liberty's Edge

I have played online only once, but I can offer some advice. The online games usually run on roll20.net(map and virtual dice) and also use Google Hangout for vocal communication. You want a headset (earphones & microphone). I do not have one, and I will not play online again until I get one.

The Paizo forum here has online PFS games.

I have never tried PbP, but I have heard that it can take months to resolve a single combat if many of the players have conflicting schedules.

Sovereign Court

they have a section here for PbP.

Play by post is great stuff! Be warned though, those games have a tendency to die like flies. If I had good advice on how to avoid it, I'd be in permanent games myself.

As for sites, paizo is good (look for 'recruitment') as is giantitp.

Here are a few stellar to PbP.

Painlord's Advanced Guide

DH's Guide to Play by Post gaming

Both of those are good enough to be stickied on the General Discussion page for Online Gaming.

Additionally, Painlord's GMing Guide is handy too, for knowing what it's like on the other side.

I think there was a guide about how to apply, but I can't find it. My advice is to flip through a few of the currently recruiting games and look at how people are laying out their aliases. Find some that are successful, and take the formatting elements from them.

Thanks for the advice, I'll admit the options are a bit daunting

Running a pbp. Takes a lot of work on the DMs part.

Try a game as a player and see where it goes.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It looks daunting at first, but my advice is to find a game you're interested in and apply. If you get rejected, try again and you'll start finding games.

Grand Lodge

Play by post is slower, but you get more of a chance to roleplay, especially if you are doing society games.
