I've been wanting to play a gnome bard with some heavy investment in illusion spells for quite some time. We're going to be starting this AP in the future, and I was wondering if I should shy away from this theme, or if it'll work out alright?
I'm not looking for spoilers, I just want to know if this choice will be shooting myself in the foot every session.

You should be okay... as much as in any AP, that is. Highly specialized characters always carry some risk of not finding opportunities to shine all the time. But if your GM is cool with letting you using illusion spells in interesting ways, you should be fine.
That is to say, there's no feature, proficiency, or spell that you "have to have" to play well in Iron Gods. There are plenty of things you may wish you had, but I can't tell you those without spoilers, and that's why you have 3 other characters in your party, after all!

Thanks Joe, I'm glad to hear that! And yeah, I don't mind being trivialized from time to time (I'll make sure to have other options at my disposal in that case). I just wanted to make sure it wasn't an unusually bad choice (considering the topic I was wary).
Nathan, thanks for that info! I wasn't aware of that feat, so I'll surely be checking that out.
