Discussion for GRIM*! Gaming Network’s SFS2 1-02: Mystery of the Frozen Moon
It will take me a few days to get the game ready, should be able to start no later than Friday, maybe a few days earlier, but I wanted to give you a place to talk about your characters.
There is a mistake in the Scenario that assumes you have access to equipment that is too high-level for you or is not published yet. There are two ways we can deal wiht this. I can just hand-wave that part, or I can turn it into a bit of a survival situation if we have characters with survival skills that would like to use their skill.
For those of you who haven't played SF2e yet, there's no stanima anymore, so if the party doesn't have a Mystic, be sure the party has a plan for healing.

Thanks GRIM*!
Hi, everyone. I'm currently playing my first SF 2e game in the current Gameday event. It appears we will be wrapping up very soon.
If that pc is available in time, I'd have a solarian with some Survival, tracking and Medicine capabilities. That said, if Big Red is coming along (Hi Big Red!), we'd have some double up with two solarians. We are currently playing in the same Ganeday table.
Alternatively, I'd like to take a Soldier for a spin to see how they differ from 1e - I enjoyed playing different flavours of Soldier in the previous edition.
Looking forward to hearing other ideas!

Hey guys, new to SFS2, but I've played a lot of PFS2 and SFS1. I have a bunch of ideas for a bunch of different characters, but I have a feeling I'll have to play the healer (I always do, *sigh*). I do have an occult witchwarper I'm willing to play, but his only healing is motivating ringtone so . . . be warned? Also, I have a bunch of other character ideas as well.

I'm fine with waiting for a few days if needed; it will also give people time to make characters if they need to. I have an idea that could drag out introductions a bit to, so we could kind of have a soft start while we wait for your other game to finish.

I will say that SF2e mystic is one of the funnest healer classes I've played, but I think the witchwarper is a fun class too, so don't feel pressured to play mystic. Motivating ringtone plus some other PCs with some healing should be fine. Someone with the medicine skill and a few consumables in the party would help a lot.
One thing that is different from PFS2 is that SFS2 has no provisions, so there is no easy fix if no one shows up with any healing.

Hey, everyone. Thanks for having me. This is (well, will be) my Through Desperate Times envoy, so some healing is present.
Just dropping in to say hi and give you all a heads up on the planned class.
I did run this character in the playtest and it was great fun. I already see some changes had been done to the mechanics, so I am curious how that will alter the experience, if at all. That said, I will make the necessary profile / header changes in the next day or so.

And Super, I have been enjoying our dowble Solarian act :)

Guys, SF2 society doesn't have factions? Am I missing something? It's been a while since I did organised play.
Outside of that, I believe I am done. Header and profile is set up, the character should be up to code.

Correct, currently no factions in SF2e. No idea if that will change or not. There are lots of other big changes to, the community is trying to fight some of them. Currently, there are no GM rewards other than ACP, although it sounds like games are being tracked so they could count towards later rewards. No merchandise perks, and longer adventures are not getting sanctioned. Once the Alien Core is out, they are looking to cut creature stat blocks. Sounds like they are planning on cutting stat blocks in PFS too, starting next year.

I just got the sides up last night. I'm still doing some prep. Supersuperlative is waiting for a game to finish; hopefully, we hear from them soon about how long that game has left. I got some ideas to extend the introductions, but that's the part I'm working on right now. I also have a live game on Thursday. I think with or without Supersuperlative, we can start the mission briefing on Friday, and if Supersuperlative needs more time, the first part is not critical, so easy to have them start a bit late.

I think we're on our last encounter as we've already done our rolls to Earn an Income and some other house keeping in preparation.
That being said, I have also created the soldier pc and am keen to try it out. I will start building the profile soon, so no need to delay on my account as I could roll with them if the other games not wrapped up (and might decided to do so, even if it is).

The advice in the GM section of the forums was that you could run this scenario with or without the cold weather effects. Since the scenario assumes you have equipment that you don't have access to. I ran this scenario in a live game last weekend, where I replaced the cold damage with survival checks, and the players had a good time with it.
If anyone has real-life experience with winter camping or survival, let me know.

I may have dabbled in some outdoorsmanship... but it is in Australia where everything is on hard mode as everything is actively trying to kill you.

I read through the rules, and I still don’t know how guns work. Do you use your simple weapon proficiency? Do they count as ‘guns’ for operatives?!
So the actual stat line for one of the weapons looks like this.
Ranged ◆◆ (gunner, martial weapon) missile launcher (tech),
Damage 1d6+3 fire
Not sure why they named the action Rangede and not missile launcher For weapon proficiency, it's a martial weapon
As for the operative question. The operative defines a gun as
Gun: Any ranged weapon with the analog or tech trait.
So I would rule it counts as a gun for an operative, since the missile launcher (tech) trait. The other reason I think that's the case is that the starship building rules in the GM Core reference the monster building rules a lot, so they are balance-wise scaled to work with player-facing rules.

Just a reminder from Paizo Blog.
"Starting on November 3rd at 12PM PT, and we estimate for 2-3 days, the website as well as the forums will be down.
Completely unrelated, I'm getting new internet service during that time, too. I'm going from 3 Mbps to 1000 Mbps. Hopefully, the new provider is more reliable, too. My last series of GM posts tonight, I lost my connection 5 times...

I'm a little confused by the interaction of Primary Target and Area weapons - how does the attack roll factor into it?
I get that a hit will cause failure and suppression for the target (unless they get a crit success). Does it effect the Primary Target damage in any way? ie. Does a miss mean that the Area Fire damage isn't taken or reduced in some way? Or is still dependent on the subsequent Reflex save for both? Or does each (Primary Target damage and Area Fire) require a separate Reflex save from the Primary Target?
You can focus fire on a single target when unleashing the full devastation of your powerful area weaponry. Before you make an area attack with a weapon (such as from the Area Fire or Auto-Fire actions), you can make a ranged Strike as a free action with the same weapon against a single creature in the area, who’s selected as your primary target. If your attack is a burst, you must select the creature closest to the center of the attack. If your attack is a cone or line, you must select the creature closest to you. If two or more creatures are equidistant, you can choose which one is your primary target. On a hit, if your primary target rolls a success against your Area Fire or Auto-Fire action, they get a failure instead. This Strike doesn’t count toward your multiple attack penalty.
You attempt to hit each creature in a designated area, which has a range equal to the weapon's range increment (for cone or line) or a designated radius of the explosion (for burst). For burst, you can position the center point anywhere within your first range increment. Any creatures in the area must succeed at a basic Reflex save against your class DC plus the tracking value of the weapon (you don't roll an attack roll). This damage is area damage. Creatures who critically fail this save are subject to effects that occur on a critical hit with this weapon, including the weapon's critical specialization effect. Area Fire has an expend equal to the value listed on the weapon.

Fun little observation, unless I missed something - Out of all the player d20 rolls in this combat, only 4 have been above 10.
