Deciphering a water damaged letter?

Advice

I am new to this group so first off hello. Secondly I did use the search option to see if this had been covered but I had no luck.

My question is:

I have a PC (a paladin)who was given a letter that before they could read it has become water damaged, causing the ink to run, resulting in it being unreadable by the PC.

Is there a way that said letter can be deciphered by another PC with a specific skill or magically repaired by somebody with a specific spell?

Thanks in advance for the help :)

Linguistics? I think this fits under the heading of 'written in an incomplete or archaic form'.

So that would be 20 DC for a simple message, and a 25 for a whole page.

Linguistics is the skill. Magically, if it was water damage Mending would not restore the writing, nor would Make Whole. You would probably need something like limited wish.

Do you have access to magic users? Clerics or Wizards?
