Identical Twin Eidolon for Summoner?

Advice

Dark Archive

Another thread made me think of this, would you as a GM allow a player to make a character that was a summoner and their eidolon was an identical twin? I know the rules say that the eidolon can't have specific looks, but IMO that's more so I can't have my eidolon look like Baba Yaga. However, conceptually to play 'twins' in that the summoner believes (or at least tells people that she believes) that her eidolon is created from the soul of her sister who died at birth?

Would you allow it, since it's not abusing the spirit of the "no specifics" rule... or take the no specifics rule 100% literally?

Before anyone says "Ask your GM" I think I would allow this, I'm just curious about other GM/Players opinions.

For opinions, the advice or discussion area would have been better.

In rules you'll find people who quote the rules. Since the rules say no specific appearance, that's it for rules questions.

Beyond that though, I think this is an interesting idea. I would probably be tempted to set up a conflict between the possibility that the eidolon only resembles the dead twin due to the feelings of the summoner, vs the summoner insisting that the twin's spirit resides in it. That could lead to fun things like churches investigating them for heresy (forcing a spirit to serve from beyond the grave could easily be considered necromancy), and the eventual question of "what happens if resurrection is used on the twin?". I'd say go for it, just don't leave it as an irrelevant detail.

First, I went ahead and flagged myself for wrong forum, as I kind of agree it might be better in the other forum, so I'll let the mods decide.

As for the other issues, yeah that is kinda cool. I mean I was just spitballing the idea after seeing that mentioned on another thread, it didn't say identical twin, but it did say twin. As for the resurrection thing, I guess that is technically possible, but really who's going to resurrect a baby that died at birth 16+ years later? Or, there is also the possibility that there is no actual twin, just an imaginary identical twin sister that was made reality when the girl became a summoner. Further taking that idea, maybe she doesn't know that she's even a summoner, just a sorcerer with with a specialization in summoning... and her beloved sister hangs out with her. :D (That especially works since in my games the actual class names are mutable... yes, people know the differences between a wizard and a cleric in theory, but unless you are going to forbid a barbarian or rogue from joining the "Fighter's Guild" it's mutable on what it means in character)

Those are good ideas as well. In my opinion, any idea that opens so many story possibilities is an idea worth considering.

Mechanically it wouldn't be an option that inspires the accusations of being overpowered that eidolons often do.

When I read this, my mind immediately jumped to synthesist summoner.

I'd allow it (regardless of syth or not... that was just my funny first glance). I'd probably make sure that Disguise checks were issued when appropriate (because looks != mannerisms). YMMV
