The Weapon Training Evolution and the Synthesist Summoner

As the synthesist's version of an eidolon doe snot recieve it's own feats, how would the Weapon Training evolution work? As far as I can tell, the nature of the fused eidolon makes this particular evolution useless, but I could be missing something, so I felt it would be best to check.

While I'm pretty sure that the fused Eidolon wouldn't grant the synthesist the Simple Weapon Proficiency feat (both because fused eidolon does not get feats, and because synthesist already ahs proficiency with simple weapons), the 2 point upgrade to martial weapon proficiency isn't feat based, so it's unclear whether or not it would work to me.
