On closing, you may put any of your buried cards back in your hand

I have no cards in my hand. 1 Buried card. I succeed the When Closing check.

Do I get the buried card in my hand and have to recharge it? or is it recharge first (nothing to recharge) then get the buried card?

I lean towards recharge first as soon as I succeed the check, then put the buried card back into my hand. But it has been challenged, so I'll ask here :)

Makes sense to me that you have nothing in your hand when you pass the check, so there's nothing to recharge, then you get your 1 card back.

"Finish one thing before moving on to the next" is the catchphrase, right?

I'd say you recharge (which would do nothing if your hand is empty) before taking your buried card. You take your buried card once you are done with everything relating to the When Closing check. To me, recharging a card is done before you leave the overall step of When Closing.

So, if you pass the check with nothing in hand, you'll end everything with your buried card in your hand.

"When Closing" happens way before "When Permanently Closed"—there's even stuff you do in between the two—so that check is ancient history by the time you have a card in your hand. See Closing a Location on page 15 of the S&S rulebook.

Thanks for the responses, we resolved it as such.
