Theorycrafting a Monkey King Character

Alright so this is a house rule game. We sometimes allow archetypes that overlap to be used, if what they both give in that replacing it not overly powerful.

So in this case I wanted to make a Magus who uses the Staff Magus and Kensai Archetypes. Well of course when I thought of that I immediately wanted to use a Vanara as the race. I got the Ok for that as well.

I am adding the Advanced Template to him, due to his 8 RP points and even with the +1 CR I should still be on level with the others.

Now of course I wanted advice on what enhancements would be good for the quarterstaff. What other feats would be good to make best use of the staff and touch delivery spells?

What traits should be used to best make use of the class/race/concept.

We also use 3.5 Material and Splatbooks such as the AEG Mercenaries.

I'll presume by Monkey King, you're talking about Sun Wukong. Well, there are a couple of iconic aspects of the character. 1) He can create clones of himself from his hair. 2) Ruyi Jingu Bang, his transformative bo staff. 3) Magical abilities. Magical abilities, naturally, are already accounted for; you're a Magus. Notably, he had control over water and ice and could ward off demons so look for spells along those lines. He could also create clones out of his hair so spells like mirror image would be ideal. It's Jingu Bang which is the most difficult because I haven't found quite a close analog which also meshes well with the Magus class.

Yes I cannot find a enhancement or anything that would allow a bostaff or quarterstaff to grow in length and retract.

Also the fact that his staff weighed like 8,000 lbs in the story. He is a deity or near deity, depending on your source.

Well, "born" in that he came from a stone egg birthed from a magic stone that sat absorbing the energy of heaven and earth since the beginning of time...

So he hardly started as just a normal monkey; he was the condensed energy of the universe that merely took the form of a monkey.

As far as Jingu Bang, it might take some houseruling to get it just right. Impact is a must, it flat-out treats the weapon as 1 size category bigger. Transformative, but instead of the normal function of the ability, it allows it to gain an additional size category over Impact, though he now must wield it in two hands (Staff Mastery makes it 1-h but it's 1 category too big so back to 2-h). So, in instances where he isn't going to use Spell Combat, he can enlarge the staff for more damage and maybe even reach. So, ideally, it would be a +3 Transformative Impact Quarterstaff and I think that would be a pretty good fit for the source material.

For Ruyi Jingu Bang/the Compliant Gold-Hooped Rod, this might be a decent base. It's an impact weapon that automatically resizes for the wielder, although it'd also need to shrink small enough to fit behind the Monkey's ear.

The earliest version of Jingu Bang also transformed into a blue-skinned, red-haired yaksha with a club, which might be best represented by an oni.

There's also these, which can lengthen their reach temporarily: Fighter's Fork, Boarding Pike of Repelling, and Barracuda's Bite.

The Transformative Impact Quarterstaff sounds like a good idea.

Or a Staff formed with Woodshape to allow for a extension to 10 foot range and then shrink down to normal size maybe as an immediate action.

However, looking at say a Monk the flavor fits the Monkey King as well.

Well I was going through the Magic Item Compendium and came across Rod of Surprises.
It fits the staff part, it fits the extending part and so forth.

I am curious if Half-Troll would fit, giving the claws and so forth when he needs to, also grants him fast healing.
