What are some good Adventure Paths to run for new players?

I'm looking for anything involving dragons, demons, vampires, etc. to keep the player's attention and make it easier for them to relate to.

Jade regent has some pretty eye-catching stuff. My party just finished the 3rd book, and we've fought a ton of demons and a dragon, and since the AP also some eastern flair(ninjas/samurai) to help keep your party's attention, I'd say that it's a pretty good choice.

Alright, I'll keep that one in mind, I'll make a list of the recs and give them each a good skimming before making a final decision, it'll be at least a month before we start playing. I need to clean the garage (aka sell tires, scrap a fridge, throw away tons of boxes, and somehow figure out a heating/cooling setup) it'll be a project alright.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

They're all very good, and there's enough different themes to suit any taste. Just pick the one that sounds like it will appeal to your group the most.

Rise of the Runelords is probably closest to classic fantasy, and escalates from fighting goblins through giants and dragons to saving the world from an ancient evil. It's my pick for introducing new players.

For classic horror monsters, Carrion Crown has all the vampires, zombies and werewolves you could possibly want: if it's been in a Universal horror movie, it's probably in there somewhere.

The others I've read that I'd recommend for new players are Mummy's Mask (strong Egyptian vibe with lots of tomb raiding) and Iron Gods (wizards vs robots), but they both have strongly divisive themes. Reign of Winter is also very, very good, and features planet hopping in a chicken-legged TARDIS.

I really dig carrion crown. Running it is fun.

bump. any others?

Liberty's Edge

I'm playing in Iron Gods right now. It's fun, I joined a group after they completed the first book and we're starting the second.

But, while fun, the tech stuff might not be such a good idea to introduce new players to since it adds a lot to the base system.

In the same vein I would try to avoid AP's that were made with special subsystems (Caravan System for Jade Regent, Mythic for Wrath of the Righteous, etc).

I've not gotten to play, but have heard very good things about, Rise of the Runelords.

Kingmaker is good if you've got a group who prefers playing Sandbox style, but you will have to run Kingdom Building (subsystem).

What about solo campaigns, what APs are good for that type of play?

Sovereign Court

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The APs are designed for 4 players using a 15 point buy. With that said, I do not think any of the APs are good for solo play out of the box. A savvy GM could make some adjustments or changes and make it work. I'd expect a bumpy road on the solo run.

I would say carrion crown. Wrath of the Righteous has demons but it also has the mythic rules. If you are willing to work with or around them that might work.
