Customer Service

The tracking for my order was updated this morning to say that yesterday it went out for delivery, but the last status is "Undeliverable. Contact sender." (Humorously, if you click that status it presents you with a glossary where it explains what the different statuses mean, but "Undeliverable. Contact sender." isn't listed in the glossary.)

If I take the USPS delivery confirmation number from the UPS-MI website and enter it on USPS.com, it says "Undelieverable as addressed."

Here is some more information that makes this all the more fun:

1. Up until 10 pm last night, the only status on the USPS side of things was that they had received the shipping info. Then late last night it suddenly went all the way to "out for delivery."

2. We didn't receive any mail yesterday, at all. Which is odd. We had an inch or two of snow, but not enough to shutdown the mail. (I mean, it is part of the motto after all.)

3. Last night, around 10 pm when I saw that it had been updated to "out for delivery" (13 hours after the time stamp) I thought, "Maybe the mail is just really late because of the snow." So I walked to the mailbox. No mail still.

4. It was only early this morning that it changed over to "Undelieverable." The time stamp for this if 11:20 am. That is only 2 hours after it was out for delivery, 9 hours before I checked the mail late at night, and approximately 4.5 hours before the time we normally get out mail (around 3:30 or so).

5. We haven't moved in the last 6 years and this order is using the same address I've always used and happily received my previous orders at. (I haven't changed my address.)

We normally have great service from the postal service. I'm not sure why it was deemed "undeliverable." So, I don't know what you want to do with that. If you want me to wait another day, I'm happy to do so. But if you can see on your side that it is headed back your way, then I figured you could go ahead and ship me a replacement. Whatever you want to do is fine.

Thanks.

My goodness. Now they claim they left a delivery notice yesterday because there was no secure location to leave the package. (I guess my mailbox isn't secure, nor was it considered secure to knock on the door and hand it to me.) And of course this status just showed up, even though it claims to have been yesterday at 4:36 pm. And of course there is no actual delivery notice either.

I'm calling them now, so don't bother sending a replacement yet.

Short version: Supposedly I'll get it today. You can skip the rest if it is a busy day.

Long version: Ok. So this is what the status update says:

USPS.com wrote:
We attempted to deliver your item at 4:36 pm on January 21, 2015 in MIDDLETOWN, DE 19709 and a notice was left because no secure delivery location was available. You may arrange redelivery by visiting http://www.usps.com/redelivery or calling 800-ASK-USPS, or may pick up the item at the Post Office indicated on the notice. If this item is unclaimed after 15 days then it will be returned to the sender. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later.

So, I cold the 1-800-ASK-USPS number. When I told the automated system that I had a delivery notice, it asked me if I wanted to reschedule the deliver. I said yes. It asked me that eh delivery notice number was. But there was no delivery notice, so I didn't have one. After trying every combination of telling the automated system "Let me speak with a real person" 10 minutes later I got a real person.

That person told me that they thought they couldn't deliver it because the address was invalid, but then they realized they could, so now it was sitting at my local post office waiting for me to either come pick it up or reschedule delivery. When I said, "It sounds like they never actually tried to deliver it. So why aren't they going to just try to deliver it today?" she said she didn't know. When I pointed out that, had I not been eagerly anticipating the package and tracking it online, I never would have known I needed to come pick it up or reschedule it (because, again, there was no notice), she said she didn't know about that either.

She offered to either reschedule it or give me the number for the post office so I could talk to them. Thinking to myself, "These are logical people. Surely if I call them and explain it all they will simply deliver it today." So I said, please give me the number. You know what happens when you dial the local number she game me? It takes you to the automated 1-800-ASK-USPS system. After fumbling through the automated system again and being told I couldn't speak to customer service unless I first gave the reason (and apparently "the person I spoke to in customer service gave me false information" isn't a reason the system will recognize) I finally got the automated system to give me a different local phone number for my post office, 378-1857. So I called it. Busy signal. Repeatedly.

At this point, I resolved to go get some lunch and stop by the post office on my way. I was fortunate there was no one in line. I showed the woman at the counter my print out of the USPS tracking info and explained (1) I was home all day yesterday (2)The package is usually just left in my mailbox and (3) We go no mail yesterday. "Did you try calling us?" she asked. "Yes, actually the number on the usps.com website is wrong." She asked, "Did you try 378-1857?" "Yes," I said. "That number was just busy." "Huh," she said.

Looking over my tracking info, she assured me my package was in the back and she would go get it. 10 minutes later (not exaggerating here) she returned, without my package. It seems my carrier (who she informed me was a substitute carrier) had already left and was planning to deliver it today. "Maybe she couldn't find your house yesterday," I was told. "I live in a neighborhood with only 4 streets and the houses are one right after another," I said. "Huh," was the reply.

There were no answers for why it, nor any of my mail, wasn't delivered yesterday. There were no answers for why the tracking claimed it was undeliverable as addressed. There were no answers for why it changed to claim they had tried to deliver it and left a notice. There were no answers as to why I was told I needed to pick it up or request to have it rescheduled when in fact it was already going to be delivered today. But I was told that if I didn't get it I could call 378-1857 to talk to someone. "Huh," I said.

Anyway, I'm hoping it shows up today after all. And this whole incident just reminds me how nice it is that you all provide excellent customer service. Thanks for reading my long story. It was therapeutic to type it all out.

And packaged received. Thus ends the weirdest experience I've ever had with package delivery.

Paizo Employee Customer Service She-Hulk

Wow, that sounds like quite an ordeal trying to get your shipment! I'm sorry that it's caused you so much trouble, but hopefully you'll end up getting the order today like you were told. We try our best to get our products out as quickly as we can, but we can't always foresee the black holes which seem to pop up sometimes.

If the package does seem to get lost further in the abyss, let us know and we'll be glad to help out.

Thanks!
Katina
