A new way to gain mythic tiers connected to kingdom building.

Advice

I was thinking about the mythic rules and the kingdom building rules and I thought what if rulers gained mythic tiers based on the size and power of their kingdom.

Something like

10 hexs 1 tier
100 hexes 2 tiers
1000 hexes 3 tiers

and so on and so forth. What sort of implications would expect that to have from a would building perspective?

Also if you think number of hexes isn't a good metric what do you think would be a better one?

The immediate implication is a cascade effect. A king with a lot of territory finds it easier to claim more territory, which makes him more powerful so he can claim more territory, rinse and repeat ad infinium (or at least to tier 10).

I would expect a small number of rulers of kingdoms of roughly-equal size, locked in a giant stalemate unless they're at tier 10.

Well the bigger the territory is the harder it is to defend and the king can't be everywhere at once.

Teleport is a thing. If the King isn't an arcane caster, ten will get you twenty he has one on the payroll.

The biggest threat would be a simultaneous attack from two rivals, but that's a risky play. Not only does it leave the alliance in danger of being attacked by somebody else seeing the opportunity, it also runs the risk of the alliance killing one king then immediately turning on each other.

Unless they're tier 10. Then, expect them to guard their own lands and leave everybody else alone, because no real incentive exists to make war and a lot of incentives exist not to.
