Playing around in Hero Lab...is this legal?

I have built a Synthesist Summoner with a claw Eidolon.

After picking up Rend I see that HL allows me to choose Rend as a legal target for Improved Damage.

Is this right? Something tells me it is not but I want to make sure.

A good question for the rules forum.

It looks to me rend is based off the base claw damage, with 1.5 str. So you would get improved natural attack for the claw, and it would also improve the rend.

There are a bunch of "rend" feats, however.
