Help building a late entry character for and AP

Advice

Ok, so I'm running the Jade Regent AP and the party lost there cleric awhile back, and more recently lost the NPC cleric that they hired.

Now, have a player that wants to join the game, they are in the middle of book 4. they have to retreat back to the caravan to get healed and could make arrangements to get another cleric. The player that wants to join has an interesting idea for a character and a way to tie him to the adventure at this point. But we need some help getting meet put on the character.

His idea is to play an Inquisitor of Achaekek (11lvl) with ether later levels in red mantis assassin or shadow dancer.

any ideas?

It's not really clear what you're looking for. General inquisitor build advice? Advice about inquisitor assassins?

Are you worried about party balance? If you tell us who else is in the party, we could help build a character that complements the rest.

well the character is for my son, we worked out a really go idea to tie the character to the party. we are looking to put some meet on the bones so to speak.

Feat ideas, magic items, spell ideas. that sort of thing.

oh, and as he would be taking the place of the main healer in the party we are keenly aware of the fact that he would have to have the healing spells in is list of known, but we also want the battle prowess of the class to shine through so that he doesn't get stuck just being the party's heal bot.

Sovereign Court

Frankly at that high level, he would be better off playing a cleric. At level 11 and higher, cleric pulls ahead of most divine classes easily. There are many guides out there to make battle cleric, just look them up.

I mean at level 11 cleric...he could just spare 1 slot for emergency to cast, the best healing spell in the game: Heal. For the rest of the healing, he can use channel energy positive and a wand of cure light wounds, while he prepare most of his spells for combat.

I guess, if he is really stuck on the idea of an inquisitor...just follow that guide.

Inquisitors make excellent archers. Archery is fairly feat intensive though so you won't be able to invest in any/many feats to bolster your spell casting. As long as the rest of the party plays smart and tactically, this should not be much of a problem. Going the archery route will keep your son out of harm's way behind the front line, making it possible for him to decide each turn whether to shoot or heal as needed.

I really like the Sanctified Slayer archetype if that appeals to your son at all. Trading Judgements for Studied Target is all win as far as I'm concerned.

Silver Crusade

At 11th level the group might benefit far more from a Cleric than from an Inquisitor. Mind you, Inquisitors are great, and an 11th level Inquisitor will make a 1st rate archer. But an 11th level cleric can cast Heal and other powerful spells. Chances are the party would benefit more from 6th level divine spells than from any archer, no matter how skilled. 11th level is a fantastic sweet spot for Clerics.

In terms of martial ability, an 11th level cleric could be about 80% as capable as an Inquisitor. In terms of spell casting ability, the inquisitor gives about 60% as much as the Cleric.

A high-level prepared divine caster might be a challenge for a young player, however.
