I foolishly waited to uninstall and start downloading the fresh release until AFTER I finished working, so I've got 3 more hours of downloading to go. Am I missing the party?

Really, Bluddwolf? Hmmm... I'm in Argentina, but my connection shouldn't be that bad. Should I stop and try again?
Daeglin: that's what you get for having friends :P
You might try pausing for 30 seconds and restarting it, rather than cancelling.

I was just kidding with you. As for trying over again, I'd suggest you keep on going with your current download. I have found that it us best to not run anything else, especially not anything online, while downloading.
Haha... seemed a little bit, uh, suspect. I'm like, is this the same 1.7gb download? Where does Bluddwolf live and how much does rent cost there?
It really did take me less than 30 minutes today. I don't know how much less, as I was doing other things. It may have been luck-of-the-load

Downloaded and installed, took me about 25 minutes.
Then again, I am in Europe, near one of the largest backbones in the world (aka CERN), in a country where competition exists so we have bloody good connection speeds.
It took me an hour and a half to download. We have a decent speed but it's wireless so can have its moments.

I'm in New York, about five miles from IBM's HQ, and a major server hub for the East Coast. Even if the severs that GW is using has nothing to do with this hub, the area generally supports some if the best download speeds anyway.
It was downloading for over three hours for me, then I stopped, came back just now, and the last .5 gigs claim they'll be done in 20. If it wasn't a GW issue, it was likely a local issue, possibly related to a lot of people saying happy new year to each other.
I spent it in game and had a very nice time and no hangover today.
I had every intention to spend New Years in game. Then falling ill ruined it all. Didn't remotely see midnight. :) Glad to hear folks had fun. The few moments I had in game I saw lots of activity.
....I downloaded it in 6 mins....
I don't have amazing internet either, so not sure how I got it so fast.
Also, more on topic, it has been good.
TEO has had a good turnout the last two days, and so has TSV, and others in our alliance so happy about that. Going around to all the starter towns, I seen as many as 40 people once, and I haven't seen less than 10-15 people in any starter hex at all. Brighthaven/Keeper's Pass has people running through, and Thornkeep is always busy.
I probably have seen several hundred unique people since last night.
