Divine Bond need be consecutive?

Hello, does the Paladin's Divine Bond ability need to be consecutive rounds or can the dude split that up through the day?

Consecutive, which is the reason for this part of the ability: "A paladin can use this ability once per day at 5th level, and one additional time per day for every four levels beyond 5th, to a total of four times per day at 17th level."
