The most common cause of desynch seems to be crossing server boundary lines, either physically, or if you die and the respawn point is in another hex.
My best guess is that the server handoff is dropping. I'm posting my thoughts on this as I would guess crash bugs are one of your highest priorities.

Yes, respawning at a shrine in another hex seems to routinely cause me to to respawn desynced, i.e. standing there with an empty health bar, unable to move (and if mobs are nearby they ignore me). To fix, relogging is the only solution. I've had considerably less problems with crossing hex lines on foot...

I last anywhere between 30s and a couple of minutes in the Rotters Hole area before desyncing right now- and there aren't even that many people around! I'm beginning to think it is something on my end, like a slow internet connection.
It most likely is. No trouble for me with 2 clients running, including logging in/out/in at will.
I have a medium computer and a measley 5 MB connection.

Now I desyncing about every fifth minute 8for the last hour or so) have gone through all of the song and dance things to do.
Have anyone else trouble?
For this latest Build, I've been desyncing so much that I've only logged in for a couple of minutes at a time to set up some crafting or train something.
Hopefully the next patch will improve this major problem.

We are seeing substantially fewer problems with desynch with Alpha 14. So if you are experiencing them at this juncture and it is not correlated with being in a hex full of other players, I would recommend you do some local troubleshooting:
1: Ensure you have fully patched and updated your operating system.
2: Ensure you are running the absolutely latest released drivers for your videocard, obtained directly from the manufacturer's website (nVidia, AMD or intel).
3: Bypass wifi and connect your machine directly to your router with a wired ethernet connection.
4: Ensure you have allocated your system RAM to 3GB for user programs if you are using a 32bit version of Windows.
5: Try disabling virus scanners and firewalls to see if they are causing interference.
6: Reduce the quality of the graphics to Simple

There must be sometning machine related I guess ... on the low end machine on wifi and 3G connection I don't get desynched but lags a lot.
On the high spec maching that I have less control of the connection firewalls and stuff I desync after five minutes... i'll change the graphic cards on it anyway so we'll se if that is the problem...

It must be the virus scanner or some other that causes my desynch as it is the only thing on the list I cant do.
It was a interesting journey to actually get the last drivers to the graphic card as the manufacturer (or assembler) didn't provide them or even admitted they where old. I had do go to the manufacturer of the chip in itself.
After that it went perfect, perhaps something for someone else to know.
after the weekends I try to get a new graphic card to test, but it seems a bit strange that it is that one causing it as I can run it passable sessions.
I tried a new character and it desynced after five minutes of loitering in the starter town.
