What animals are valid for Paladin animal companions?

Rules Questions

Nowhere in the description of Divine Bond does it tell you what can use as a Paladin bonded mount. I always assumed it had to be a creature that is big enough for your character to ride (at least on size category larger) but it doesn't say so in any of the rules.

Can I select any animal that's a valid druid animal companion for a Paladin mount? Is there an official ruling on this anywhere?

Grand Lodge

Pretty much as it says here.

The second type of bond allows a paladin to gain the service of an unusually intelligent, strong, and loyal steed to serve her in her crusade against evil. This mount is usually a heavy horse (for a Medium paladin) or a pony (for a Small paladin), although more exotic mounts, such as a boar, camel, or dog are also suitable. This mount functions as a druid's animal companion, using the paladin's level as her effective druid level. Bonded mounts have an Intelligence of at least 6.

This implies you don't get the full druid list.

The word "usually" there is what bothers me.

GM discretion.

Grand Lodge

Usually means most paladins pick up a Horse or Pony. Some odd balls get a boar or camel or dog.

GM may also allow certain other animal, but that is GM call.
If this is PFS, some scenarios give a boon that opens new animals up for those with a limited list (Axebeak and Owlbear are 2 I know)

Since the OP is a Pathfinder Society member, I'll post a link to THIS FAQ just in case his question is regarding a PFS character.
