Arcanemuses threw down the gauntlet and challenged me to create a Lovecraftian-inspired class. Since Arcanemuses issued the challenge a few weeks ago, I gave myself only three days to design this investigator archetype.
Summary
- Maddening Inspiration: Can reduce the cost of using inspiration against fear effects, aura effects, and aberration abilities by taking 1 point of Wisdom damage that can only be cured through natural healing. Inspiration cannot be used on attack rolls unless the target is an aberration or subject of studied combat.
- Call the Unspeakable: Gain summon nature's ally extracts in a similar manner to the preservationist alchemist, except the animal is deformed and considered an aberration. Replaces poison resistance, poison immunity, and talents gained at 13th and 17th levels.
- Symbolic Lore: Can cast read magic as a spell-like ability and use Linguistics to search for rune/symbol traps (trapfinding bonus applies). Replaces poison lore.
- The Signs Have Meaning: Adds erase and secret page to formula book. Can add rune traps to formula book after disarming them. Can use inspiration to replace a prepared extract with one of these extracts (maddening inspiration reduces this cost). Replaces swift alchemy.
- Investigator Talents: Can take vestigial arm and tentacle alchemist discoveries or the following talents. Maddening inspiration can reduce the inspiration cost of these talents.
Inspired Alchemy: Expend two uses of inspiration to add +1 CL to an extract.
Forbidden Lore: Expend two uses of inspiration to use legend lore.

So, if I wanted you to design me a cool archetype, all I have to do is challenge you? That is good to know...
I had so much fun making this archetype, I considered doing a request thread. I probably should finish my homebrew classes first. One of my players repeatedly expresses his desire to bribe me for cool, flavorful homebrew content for his character.

Well done. I feel this archetype fits the Lovecraftian niche quite well. I am glad you had fun answering the challenge, and that you did not take it personally.
But now, with the advent of Occult Adventures, I fear our efforts were in vain, for there seems to be six new Lovecraftian classes coming out...

Actually, a homebrew archetype exchange for Christmas would be really cool. Like a secret Santa.
That could be a whole lot of fun.

I'm glad you enjoyed the result. I know I'm a tough critic, so I took the challenge in stride. Occult Adventures's classes don't appear to have Lovecraftian influence, though I will be very disappointed if they don't have Dark Tapestry options.
On an unrelated note, I reflavored mimics in my campaign as eldritch alien horrors in disguise. The party has a friendly one named Mr. Charles on their ship. One player voluntarily took Wisdom damage in response to glancing at one of Charles's undisguised limbs.
