Rise of the Runelords and the ACG

Rise of the Runelords

The Exchange

I finally have the opportunity to play RotRL starting tomorrow night and had a questions for those players and game master who have played through this AP. You may have played this Adventure Path before the Advanced Class Guide was released. If you were playing this AP today, are there any classes from the ACG that you think would be good for Rise of the Runelords?

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

An investigator who is interested in studying the ruins and history of ancient Thassilon. (Not a spoiler since that's suggested as a motivation for casters in the player's guide.)

That's what I would play from the ACG.

The Exchange

Thank-you for mentioning the Investigator... That class along with the History of the Ancients trait can really make a serious history buff. And it seems to me that History of the Ancients would really be useful in this AP

The Arcanist could be interesting from a similar standpoint as the Investigator, given the motivation for Wizards could easily apply to them as well.

Slayer might be good, too, especially one who is focused on hunting one of the favored enemy recommendations from the Player's Guide.

I can't think of a way that makes natural sense for a lot of the other options.

I would play a Warpriest, but I'm one of the apparent few who genuinely like the class. Have the PC be an escort for a cleric (or the representative themself) from Magnimar or even Korvosa, up for the dedication.
I do like the Investigator idea though.

Shoanti are common enough in Sandpoint so a Bloodrager would fit in well; at least in Burnt Offerings and in Skinsaw (what I've seen so far).

Any class can be justified...the brawller punched out the wrong person in Magnimar and is now in sandpoint letting things "cool down". A hunter is in town, looking to hook up with his/her on again-off again lover (shalelu or one of the others)...

I'm a fan of the Warpriest, too. I heartily enjoy the one I play in a Kingmaker campaign. I may not do the damage of the Barbarian, but I can dish it out and hold my own, especially when given buff time.

That's actually a really good way to work a Warpriest in. I didn't even think about it.

I'd love to claim it as my own, but I totally stole it from NobodysHome (sorry if I mangled your name) introduced a Paladin in their campaign.

Having read his campaign journal, I really should have remembered that. It's very well written.
