Magical Crafting

Advice

Hey Guys and Girls

So im having a bit of an issues with my DM in terms of Magical Item creation.

I have taken all the relevant feats. And i told him that i was crafting a Wand of cure light wounds.

And of course according to the Players guide the Rules state that the cost of this item is 750gp and thus I can craft 1 wand in 1 day as per the 1000gp per day and 1 magical item created per day rules.

But according to my DM there is no way that one can "charge" or cast 50 cure light wounds for this wand in one day and there for he has extended the crafting time by alot.

Since i have only been playing for around 2 years and he has been played for 10x that im not sure how to argue my point here.

In this situation how would you try and explain to him that crafting in a quiet environment and battle casting are 2 different things?

Any advice on this is welcome.
Thanks guys

He is incorrect. Charging a wand does not require 50 casts of a spell. It requires 1 cast. That rule would apply to scrolls or power stones, not wands.

The creator must have prepared the spell to be stored (or must know the spell, in the case of a sorcerer or bard) and must provide any focuses the spell requires. Fifty of each needed material component are required (one for each charge). Material components are consumed when work begins, but focuses are not. A focus used in creating a wand can be reused.

Wording from wondrous Items if it helps for context. The only difference for wands is that the material price must be multiplied by 50.

There's your problem right there... he's been around long enough to remember older editions of D&D where you DID have to cast the spell once for every charge.

They did away with that some time ago (at the start of 3rd Ed I believe? I *think* it was around in 2nd Ed.) Also back then Wands had 100 charges too... so think how long that would have taken. Oh, and no feats meant you were just sinking time, cash and potentially questing for rare components into the mix. At least back then you got a XP bump successfully creating one to compensate you for the time spent.

Older D&D edition were quite a bit lighter on player created magic items.

tell your DM this is not fun and you want to change feats since he isn't interested in using the same rule set you are, and then before you pick a new feat make sure it works as you think it does by asking the DM before hand.

Your GM is mistaken, and yes, I do believe that was a rule in older editions as CyderGnome states (but it is no longer true in this version of the game). If he insists on sticking with his ruling anyways, I would take Trimalchio's advice and ask the GM for a change.

It also sounds like he is conflating the rules for providing expensive material components in there as well - if making a wand with such a spell you do have to provide 50 sets of material components during creation. But you can still make the wand in one day and with one actual casting of the spell.

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice guys. Our game is on Thursdays and i will let you guys know how it goes :)
