Calling all ye guide, wiki, spreadsheet and python workers!

Pathfinder Online

There are a lot of us working on a lot of different things and, collectively, a whole lot of serious badassery going on in the way of community written guides.

I propose we get together and try to write a master guide of the game that has all our names on it and can be a one-stop shop for new players, instead of us having 10 different guides for 200 different things, as we currently do.

All in favor of a unified guide, post below. If you are interested in contributing to the construction process, feel free to say so.

Doesn't Cheatle's guide serve that purpose already?

A Central Repository for these things is simple to create, just add links to the individual pieces. Might I recommend you create such a repository at pfo.pathfinderwiki.com?

Central Planning for these things is another matter entirely, and unlikely to be productive.

As with so many things, you risk spending more time on talking than creating. In a way, these efforts are PVP as well; some will succeed beyond dreams, others may peter out and fade over time, yet others simply incorporate with another's work organically.

I was thinking more along the lines of actually getting everything in one document, rather than a bunch of documents scattered across the inter-webs.

I think everything in one document is counter-productive, and people don't really have an issue with a list of links that say "click this for recipe info" or "click this for experience costs" etc.

I feel it's generally fine, probably better to have multiple modalities for these kinds of things, because people often like to review or consume information in different ways, or in different places.

Some like to use software on their computer, some like spreadsheets, others prefer traditional wiki's, forums, and some just want to have something working well on their iPhone.

I made and work on pathfinderonlinehq.com and its tools because I'm building it the way I like to review data, and so I use it to play and learn as I go. If others like to use it as well, that's cool too.

Being the only app/program so far (as far as I know) the calculators seem sufficiently different than the various documents/website that I don't see how to incorporate them into one universal document. I'm not sure what you are aiming at when it comes to incorporating a program into a document.

Like Doc, my project is mostly made for myself but released publicly. It's designed to be standalone and may not be the most newbie friendly.

As others have said: trying to make a universal document seems doomed to failure. New people will come along and make their own spreadsheets/webpages/apps. So unless you plan to be all borg-like and assimilate everything I don't see how such a venture can succeed.

"We are the PFO borg. Lower your hopes of individuality and surrender your project to us. We will add your project's distinctiveness to our own. Your project will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."

Pretty much the best that can be done imo is to provide links to the various projects. This has already been done on these boards, though I'm not sure how much exposure that list gets.

The borg comment made me spit coffee out. lol

I think one document with all is difficult, but one place with links to each work is possible.

As Fierywind pointed out, I think Cheatle's Guide may have that covered.

If only there was some sort of book you could model such a thing after, like a guide or manual, yea something like a Player's Manual of some sort or maybe a Core Rulebook type thing, I swear I've seen something like that around here ;-)

with links on terms for jumping to their reference? And maybe an easy index for navigating it? Nope. Never seen one.

Thanks for shout out for my work, much appreciated. :)

How much exposure and feedback my Reference List has received? Not much really. That is why I am going to reformat it and make it an entry in the PFO Wiki now that I have access to it. I just need to schedule it for my next day off...

I would like to see the effort be concentrated in as few places as possible (example PFO Wiki and PF HQ), with a list of references and tools be made available that takes advantage of all the player generated content being made.

I am currently working both on an updated list of links and a cold start XP guides, I will be posting them on PFO Wiki and PF HQ if possible.
